PROJECT EXPERIENCE DETAILS:
COMPANY: IBM Canada (Pacific Development Centre)
PROJECT: St. Judes Medical Hospital CAN -- December 2007 -- June 2008
The SJM project team consisted of some 30+ employees. The project spanned multiple releases and supported a large set of patient medical data.
ROLE TITLE: ENVIRONMENT BUILD SPECIALIST
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
This role involved performing the following tasks:
Environment/Linux Support/Management -- Maintaining 4 Linux environments for the project. This involved installing software, managing security (for both WAS and Linux x/p series). Chris applied fixpacks to both the middleware and OS. Chris was responsible for setting up (and updating) Oracle/WebSphere configuration.

Web Deployments -- Chris controlled the process of checking out project source code, building an EAR file and deploying it to WAS. Existing ANT scripts were used for the builds. Chris modified the scripts when necessary, and fixed any build problems. He setup global security in WAS - this included connecting to various hooks such as active directory, local domain security and other LDAP directories.

Troubleshooting, Problem Solving -- Resolving issues on all servers in each environment, including network related issues. Chris was responsible for fixing a TSM (Tivoli Storage Manager) problem due to invalid network adapter problems. TSM was used for server backups. Chris fixed issues relating to components mentioned below.

ROLE TITLE: WEB ENABLEMENT SPECIALIST
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
This role involved performing the following tasks:
Server Builds -- installing software on servers for Testing, UAT, and Production. Involved running automated health checks and resolving any issues. WebSphere App. Server was primarily setup on these machines in a clustering manner. The system was setup with a WebSphere Edge Server that load balanced the system. A key objective involved eliminating all points of failure. Redundancy played a big part in this. Most work involved Windows systems, although Chris worked on some AIX boxes as well.
Security -- involved setting up global security in WAS. This involved connecting to various controls such as active directory, local domain security and other LDAP directories. Chris was also involved in configuring TAM to control web resource access to system users.
Troubleshooting, Problem Solving -- Resolving issues as they arose. Involved communicating with the client and IBM support teams.
JACL/ANT scripting -- Creating JACL scripts to automate WAS configuration.
PKI - SSL -- Setting up certificates and key pairs for WAS communications to other software tools such as LDAP and TAM.
Server analysis -- Involved investigating client systems as a whole and recommending better configuration and/or architecture.

E_CRM is a JMS trigger based email system providing clients with detailed insurance quotes. The project was designed as an adoption to RBS (Royal Bank of Scotland) current infrastructure. The system deals with 50,000 emails per day.
ROLE TITLE: WEBSPHERE CONSULTANT
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
This role involved performing the following tasks:
Support -- deployment of EAR files and web resources onto WAS (WebSphere Application Server). This system went into PRODUCTION on the 13th August 2006. Production support was provided for up to 3 weeks after go-live. The WAS server was hosted on 2 AIX LPARs (logical partitions).
Design -- Assistance in the design of the Production and Testing environments.
Troubleshooting, Problem Solving -- Resolving issues as they arose. Involved communicating with other support teams.
Optimisation -- Optimising the WebSphere Application server for maximum throughput. Involved tweaking configuration and settings.
Test Assistance and Monitoring -- Testing various components of the system. Monitoring how the tests were performing, correcting issues, and improving the system.
JACL/ANT scripting -- Creating JACL scripts to automatically setup JMS and WAS configuration for the Production environment.
PKI - SSL -- Setting up certificates and key pairs to implement SSL connections over TCP between WAS and MQ on the mainframe.

ROLE TITLE: SYSTEMS SUPPORT
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
This role has involved a number of varying skills:
Organisation, Deployment and Support of SDSS (Standard Defence Supply System) E-Business: Ensuring all server builds included the required software -- such as database connection drivers and software levels. Communications over the network were also arranged for adequate system access and operation. These tasks required a large document set of which Chris covered: 'statement of work', 'high-level design', 'installation guides', 'testing' and 'support' documents. The system is now in production.
Scripting tasks: Designing scripts to automate system installation. Chris has used Windows scripting and batch files for this task.
IBM Tivoli Products: Chris played a major role in the DOSD2 (Defence Online Secure Domain) project. He installed IBM Tivoli Access Manager to protect access to Web server resources. He also installed IBM Tivoli Identity Manager to provision access to network resources within Defence. Protection of MQ Messaging queues with TAMBI (Tivoli Access Manager Business Integration) was necessary. Other skills developed were PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) and certificate authentication, including self-signed and CA (Certificate Authority) signed certificates. MQIPT (MQ Internet pass-thru) was used to assist in firewall access from external applications/clients.

ROLE DESCRIPTION:
This project was the foundation of future developments for the DeBI (see job above for DeBI description)
WebSphere Message Broker: Chris was previously unfamiliar to this product and had to learn on the job. This tool allows smart routing of messages across an MQ Series messaging architecture. To build message flows with this product, Chris used ESQL (Extended Structured Query Language) that included connection and interaction with a DB2 database.
