Implemented GNU Cfengine to monitor file system integrity and ease maintenance of a centralized file system store. Implemented host based firewalls using ipfilter to greatly enhance security of data center systems.

Technical Support Engineer - 1999 to 2004
Sun Microsystems,, Broomfield, Colorado
Provided Solaris Systems Administration technical support to Sun's customers and staff, with a focus on Sun's Storage products. Over two hundred hardware and software products supported including Solstice Backup and Online Disksuite, Veritas Volume Manager, Veritas Netbackup, and Raid Manager. Over fifty-five hundred cases resolved. Member of Sun Storage ACES program. Function as a back-line engineer for some of the more difficult cases. Taught junior engineers how to resolve calls more efficiently. Developed and implemented a mini-Sunsolve web site with hand-selected Storage related documents, which was used by Sun Technical Support Engineers to find appropriate answers faster. Handled many Netbackup calls, which usually required detailed log file analysis. Compared customer's configurations to available knowledge bases from Sun and Veritas, to find mis-configuration problems or areas where support would be difficult or impossible. Things learned and documents collected were then published via the mini-sunsolve web site mentioned above. Developed a script that implemented an automated case routing system that routes cases to engineers based on availability, product expertise, and individual case load. This automation freed up two engineers that were performing this process manually. Received Burke Customer Survey Perfect 10 Award. Trained on most of Sun's products.
