RESUME DETAILS
EDUCATION
Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) -- Electrical Engineering (Signal Processing) Dec 2008
Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona, U.S.A.

Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) -- Electronics and Comm. Engineering May 2006
Valliammai Engineering College (Anna University), Chennai, India.

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
Spectral / Time -- Frequency Analysis of Accelerometer data for Human Activity Recognition
Worked in conjunction with a CSE Doctoral candidate towards recognizing different low frequency human activities with data obtained from a set of 5 Tri -- Axial Accelerometers strapped on different parts of the human body. The analysis techniques varied from applying the STFT, Wigner Distribution to simple frequency domain analysis like the PSD estimate or the Spectrogram. The obtained accuracy was as high as 85 % averaged over 5 trials.

WORK EXPERIENCE
School of Social & Family Dynamics, ASU: Grad. Research Asst. Jan 2008 -- Present
Work as a Data Manager for the 'Juntos Research Project'. The position involves basic data management, merging of records and generating reports using SPSS, SAS and Microsoft Excel. Accumulated 'Project Process Cycle' oriented skills and 'People Management' skills.

ASU for Arizona, Arizona State University : Statistical Analyst May 2007 -- Dec 2007
The position involved assimilation and compilation of statistical data as part of community outreach projects to inculcate widespread awareness and initiate discussions on the academic and policy making level. Worked as a team member of the 'State of Black Arizona' document, from the initial stage of drafting ideas till the final stage of the publication.

GRADUATE PROJECTS
Arizona State University, Tempe
DCT - EZT based Decimation and Interpolation in Video Coding Sep 2008 -- Dec 2008
Implementation of faster coding methods in the DCT domain (Decimation and Interpolation) followed by Embedded Zerotree (EZT) coding to achieve better compression at low bit rates. Half Pel EBMA is used for motion compensation and to obtain motion vectors.

Motion Compensation using Estimated Block Matching Algorithm Sep 2008 -- Nov 2008
The initial frame (I Frame) is coded using the Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT). The subsequent frames (P Frames) are predicted using a motion compensation algorithm (Block Matching). The measure of the prediction performance is given by the PSNR between the predicted and the source frame.

Real Time Image Processing (Assembly / Hybrid C) Jan 2008 -- May 2008
The objective is to apply simple real time image enhancement techniques to live video stream captured from a webcam attached to the PC via the Universal Serial Bus. The enhancement techniques include Gray Level Transformations (Negative, Brightness and Contrast of the image), Image Quantization, Grayscale to binary conversion and Histogram Equalization.

Pitch Estimation of Voiced Speech Segments (Assembly / Hybrid C) Jan 2008 -- May 2008
Pitch Estimation was implemented as one of the applications of the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) on the TMS320C55x Processor. The pitch is estimated as the maximum component (index) of the autocorrelation function of the voiced speech segment.

Time Frequency Signal Processing (Course Project) -- MATLAB Sep 2007 -- Dec 2007
Time Frequency representation of Accelerometer data in Activity Classification. Data was obtained from 5 different accelerometers and analyzed by applying different Time Frequency Transforms to observe if there were any evident visual distinctions in the Time -- Frequency spectrum.

Digital Spectral Analysis (Course Project) -- MATLAB Feb 2007 -- Apr 2007
Study and comparison of different parametric and non parametric methods of spectral analysis on a given input signal and noise sequence. Some of the methods implemented and observed included Blackman Tukey PSD estimates, Welch Periodogram, Yule Walker PSD, Burg and Covariance PSD, LMS estimates and the MUSIC PSD estimates.

UNDERGRADUATE PROJECT
Bharat Electronics Ltd. Bangalore, India Jan 2006 -- May 2006
FPGA Implementation of Prototype 8Bit RISC Processor
Development of a prototype general purpose processor for Digital Signal Processing applications with the aim to execute signal processing operations in a single instruction cycle. Implemented using VHDL and SPARTAN II FPGA Trainer Kit.

WORKSHOPS / SEMINARS ATTENDED
Indian Institute of Technology Madras and Analog Devices Inc. Aug 2005 -- Nov 2005
Adaptive Echo Cancellation - ADBF533 (Black Fin -- Assembly / Hybrid C)
Simulating one part of the hand shake sequence preceding the actual call setup in a point to point digital link. The focus is on the echo -- canceller training phase, which allows the transmitter to estimate the echo impulse response by employing a pseudo -- random training sequence. While the near end is training the echo canceller, by arrangement, the far end does not send any signal. This allows the near end to correctly estimate the echo impulse response.

Speech Digitization, Quantization and A-law coding - ADBF533 (Black Fin -- Assembly / Hybrid C) Human speech is recorded and playback is established for a talk thru program. A set of manipulations is performed to this speech signal such as introducing variable delays to the speech sequence, studying the effect of quantization and sampling rate on speech quality and the implementation of A-law (G.711) speech coding.

Image Compression and Restoration using DCT - ADBF533 (Black Fin -- Assembly / Hybrid C)
Implementation of the Discrete Cosine Transformation (DCT) for a 2-d image matrix, verify the image compression properties of the DCT and to recover the original image with the inverse discrete cosine transformation (IDCT).
