Originally recruited to oversee the installation of Cray supercomputer into operational data center for the DoE. Based upon success, given accountability for building, expanding and managing operations for 5 data centers supporting research scientists globally for DoE, National Science Foundation, and National Oceanic and Administrative Foundation.
Total responsibility for the on-time delivery of multiple, simultaneous projects to enhance scientific research, reduce operating costs and increase overall capability. Collaborate with customers, teams and leadership to define overall scope and deliverables for projects. Create project plans, resource requirements, and status reporting structure. Plan, track and monitor all aspects of multi-million dollar projects. Analyze and ensure appropriate resolution of issues. Lead cross-functional teams of up to 50 through 8 direct reports.
KEY PROJECTS & ACHIEVEMENTS:
* Credited with delivering complex projects, consistently exceeding technical, financial and contractual obligations with minimal disruptions to operations.
* Managed all efforts to deploy a 200-rack Cray XT5 petaflop supercomputer into existing data center for DoE within 3 months, the world's fastest open science supercomputer.
* Directed the installation of an 88-rack Cray XT5 supercomputer into operational data center for newly captured National Science Foundation contract, enabling the reduction for power consumption and associated costs on global research. Led the installation of 12 megawatts electrical infrastructure and a 3,000-ton HVAC infrastructure.
* Drove a major Data Center remodeling effort for existing data center to ensure the optimal uptime and performance of 2 new Cray XT5 supercomputers and NOAA system. Planned and coordinated the upgrade of technical, power, cooling and floor infrastructure to support new initiative.
* Technical Lead for defining plans and strategy to build 2 new Data Centers to support additional contracts with 2 government agencies.

DOD HIGH PERFORMANCE COMPUTING MODERNIZATION PROGRAM OFFICE, MAJOR SHARED RESOURCE CENTER
Chosen and given dual responsibility to oversee the build out and upgrade of infrastructure at 2 data centers for DoD contract; and provide technical expertise for annual technology acquisition programs.
Scope of accountability spanned defining project scope, resources and timelines; creating project documentation; evaluating, selecting and negotiating the purchase of technologies with vendors; tracking project costs and deliverables; analyzing future power / cooling requirements and cost projections; overseeing the deployment and integration of technologies; coordinating accepting testing; resolving key issues; and delivering status reports to customers, team members and management. Led efforts of up to 50 team members.
KEY PROJECTS & ACHIEVEMENTS:
* Credited with successfully completing 5 major data center upgrade programs, in adherence to project scope, budget and timelines.
* Technical Advisor for DoD High Performance Computing Modernization Program Office's annual computer system acquisition initiative. Served on source selection team providing technical advice on computer configurations, I/O throughput, and data center facility requirements for the purchase of 2 large and 2 small supercomputers.
* Drove a major network infrastructure modernization effort within 3 days, delivering a completely redundant Gigabit Ethernet architecture at both locations.
* Successfully completed the replacement of mass storage archive unit within 30 days, reducing footprint by 75% while increasing storage capacity by 5 folds. Led efforts to modify facility, install new 10,000 slot Sun SL8500 tape mass storage unit, and relocating Sunfire 14K servers and RAID unit to new location.
* Managed the subsequent replacement of servers and fiber channel RAID for mass storage archive unit, increasing server capability by 8 folds, I/O capability by 16 folds and storage capacity by 6 folds.
* Project managed the remodeling of infrastructure at 7,000 square foot data center and build out of new 2,800 square foot electric room on top of existing building to support the rollout of new Cray XT4 supercomputer. Oversaw the installation of 1.8 megawatts of new power capacity, 500 tons of additional cooling, a 2.25 megawatts generator system, and a 24-rack 8,000 processor Cray XT4. Incorporated flywheel backup units as an environmentally friendly and more-cost effective alternative to lead-acid batteries within electric room.
* Directed the build out of new technical, electrical and cooling infrastructure at 9,000 square foot data center to support the installation of new Cray XT3 supercomputer, within 10 weeks, $100K below budget and with zero unscheduled outages to existing Cray X1E supercomputer.

MANAGED SERVICES ENGINEER
Originally brought on as a Systems Support Engineer to provide optimal support to customers on company's SGI and Cray hardware / software. Promoted to Managed Services Engineer to define and recommend high-performance computing solutions to businesses, government agencies and educational institutions throughout Denver.
Consulted with clients to analyze needs, recommend system configurations for high-end systems, deploy Cray supercomputers, and effectively resolve all issues. Collaborated with sales team to introduce company's products to new and existing customers. Delivered technical presentations and proof-of-concept designs.
