Career Summary
18 years experience as “hands-on” lead role in the delivery of business intelligence (BI) solutions including data warehouse, data mining, reporting and analytic applications. Most often my role has been as business intelligence advocate. Generally engaging as an internal consultant, working closely with all stakeholders to define and form a solution vision. Next, in various led roles, map accepted requirements into activities to create the project deliverables throughout the entire project life cycle. Development experience spans Mainframe to Client Server to UNIX to the Web while using a variety of RUP based methodologies and learned BI best practices.

HP/EDS -- GM Global Manufacturing and Quality Business Group, Warren, MI May08 -- Dec08 Business Data Warehouse Project Manager (Contractor) Reported directly to the global business champion. Directed a cross functional, geographically diverse team responsible for the deployment of the data warehouse, data mart, associated ETL streams and the analytic applications. Became the project's QA manager and leading SME on GM's global warranty and quality data and source feed systems. * Directed ongoing data quality assurance activities including design and implementation of data validation audits reports for ongoing production ETL loads and execution of data campaigns (fixes). * Directed the development and institution of the quality assurance and change control governance models as well as the global data steward counsels. * As individual contributor, provided hands-on use of SQL (DB2 UDB), Base SAS v9, SAS EG, MS Access, SQLServer and WebSphere ProfileStage to perform both data profiling and validation for the ETL's streams transformation processes. Results: Participated in the UAT and directed successful transition to a steady production state of the applications, data warehouse and data mart's quality assurance, maintenance and governance models.
IBM Global Services -- GM Global Manufacturing and Quality IS&S, Warren, MI Mar04--Mar08 BI Project Manager, Quality Systems SME, Information Engineer (Contractor) Participated in the complete lifecycle of two related projects, implemented iteratively using SDP-21 SDLC. Back-end Projects, '04-'07. Consolidation of data from all of GM's claims payment, vehicle assembly production and sales, dealer and TREAD incident source systems into a single common architecture (>120 source feeds) resulting in a 4-terabyte DB2-UDB data warehouse provisioned with Websphere DataStage. Front-end Projects '06-'08. This associated project provides a 6-terabyte reporting SAS SPDS based data mart provisioned by custom SAS ETL with an interface of SAS BI platform tools and custom JAVA/SAS reporting/analytical applications. These applications are used by over 3,500 users worldwide.
Individual contributions included review/approval/authorship of project deliverables across all phases of both projects. Major achievements over both projects by phase: Define and design phases: * Directed the development of the projects' portfolio planning including the project charter and planning estimates used in creating the RPF's and awarding the work for the multi-vendor, multi-year projects. * IT led in development/approval of projects business requirements and technical specifications. * Mapped accepted requirements to the scope of successive increments and work activities (WBS). * Led JAD sessions and requirement workshops in Korea, Germany, Australia, US, and China. Construct and test phases: * IT led for each data store's (DW and MART) logical and physical design merging six legacy data models including design of the data mapping and transformation rules specifications used for the ETL. * Shared design and approval of project planning included deployment, testing and construction plans, work breakdown structures (WBS) and formal report out to upper management. * Shared design and approval of all test cases and participated in UAT for both project. Deployment and sustain phases: * Directed data cross functional quality assurance teams using Base SAS, SAS EG and DB2 - SQL to validate and confirm proper data loading and data transformation rules for both projects. Results: GM IT was able to shut down 10 business unit's unique legacy systems (many 10's of unique feeds each) across all global business units and eliminate operational costs and redundancy. GM business for the first time could align corporate wide manufacturing quality analysis and reporting processes on a single set of metrics based on a single, common set of data and applications.
BI Solutions, Purdue Pharma L.P. -- Stamford, CT May02 -- Dec02 Business Intelligence Systems SME (Contractor) Lead member of the Clinical Data Warehouse design team reporting to the director of data warehousing for Worldwide Medical Research (WMR). Functional areas in scope included Pharmaceutical Medical Research, Clinical Trials, Drug safety and efficacy analysis, drug trial modeling and forecasting, clinical data consolidation. * Authored the project charter, documents detailing the business information requirements, functional specifications and executive presentations detailing the team's recommendations and findings. * Interviewed over 30 WMR colleagues including executives, managers, programmers and knowledge workers. Then consolidated and analyzed results and published the findings. * Authored and presented a series of custom presentations introducing business intelligence concepts and methodologies and their applicability to the pharmaceutical industry and specifically Purdue Pharma. Results: Delivered to Purdue WMR executives an assessment of program scope, budget, resource requirements and overall readiness for a clinical data warehouse for their organization. BI Solutions, Ford Motor Company QIA -- Allen Park, MI 2000--2003 As Project Manager and Information Engineer, Ford's Quality Information and Analysis department led a variety of teams of consultants, vendors and employees to execute complete SDLC for our projects. Individual contributions included requirements analysis, data base design, evaluation of solution alternatives and recommendations, project planning documents and project status presentations for management. * Design, develop and deploy an extranet Cognos OLAP based web portal to allow Ford's suppliers (200 + users) to track manufacturing quality and warranty metrics for their product. * Design and implemented a web based managed reporting application using Cognos Powerplay, Impromptu and MS Office tools used internally by Ford global corporate quality offices to consolidate the key performance metrics for vehicle sales and service satisfaction, warranty costs and rates and critical assembly plant manufacturing metrics. * Designed and implemented an “quality ticker” and balanced scorecard used by top Ford executives. * Design, develop, deploy and maintain a series of ETL application's based on custom written Oracle PL/SQL and UNIX scripts for both the Oracle data warehouse and the Cogno's OLAP environment. Results: BI Solutions delivered a data warehouse and series of analytical and reporting applications that were adopted globally as the single source for quality metrics. Our team continued to augment and enhance the data warehouse, ETL and applications while maintaining them in a steady production state for over 8 years.
BI Solutions, Ford Motor Company FRL -- Dearborn, MI 1997--2000 As Project Manager and Information Engineer, Science Research Laboratory (FRL) led teams to support Ford's data mining research team. * Project management for the data warehouse/data integration efforts for eight unique research studies and loaded data warehouses and data marts for the studies. * Led team that researched and recommended data mining tools and service vendors. Results: Managed the architectural design of and construction of the data repositories for the Oracle (FRL) and SGI Origin (University of Illinois - NCSA) environments.
Oracle Corporation (various clients) -- Chicago, IL 1996--1997 As a Managing Principle of the Data Warehouse Practice, represented Oracle with various clients using the custom development methodology for data warehouses to deliver business intelligence applications. * Directed and participated in solution scoping, requirements analysis, and architectural/database design activities for a number of clients. Results: Managed completion of a financial data warehouse for Apollo Travel (United Air).
