While at Primestar, now Direct TV, my responsibilities included planning, design and implementation of new call centers and data centers in an HUB and SPOKE environment. I was also responsible for the design of global network infrastructure, including Internet and CSG database connectivity. To accomplish these goals in building out and implementing these multiprotocol network infrastructures I used Cisco, 3Comm and IBM RISC 6000's. My responsibilities also included the maintenance and trouble shooting of complex network issues.

My duties included responsibility for Internet Domain Name Registration and administration for global DNS utilizing Cisco Network Registrar, CNR.

Maintained Unix platforms such as RISC 6000, HP and SUN Solaris and was responsible for all remote connectivity into out HUB site for Vendor and partner connectivity. Scripting was also a part of my responsibility to parse massive business reports from CSG using Bourne Shell, Korn Shell and CSH Shell.

I was responsible for the management of many SNA gateways including Open Connect Systems on RISC 6000, Microsoft SNA, Microsoft NT platforms and Sun Servers ranging in size from 200 users to 2000 users. This included mainframe connectivity to CSG. Many of the remote sites I supported were using AS400s which required me to travel to remote sites to perform maintenance and trouble shooting.

Architect and implement mainframe, mail and internet connectivity with client connectivity using Windows 95, Windows NT and MAC. IP, IPX and Appletalk were the main protocols used in this multi-protocol environment and the design was architected to follow the standard Core, Access and distribution model.

The main protocols used were OSPF and BGP using Cisco and 3Comm routers and switches in the backbone network. The majority of our networks were running resilient links to switches to provide high availability for the infrastructure.

I was also responsible for WAN connectivity, which was comprised of everything from X.25, LAPF, Q931, IDNX, 56K Lease Lines, T1, E1, DS3, OC48 Sonnet and ATM. Many different devices were used to provide this connectivity including Cisco, Rachaell Datacom, Kentrox, Paradyne, Ascend, Shiva, Newbridge, Aspect and Rolm.

Architecture for remote connectivity for 1000 remote and local users for telecommunication included the use of Cisco routers and switches, IBM routers, switches and servers, Motorola Modem banks in conjunction with Xyplex Terminal Servers and routers. For remote dialin connectivity I implemented Shiva Lanrovers, ISDN connectivity and TACACS+ an Radius were used in conjunction with Secure ID

Perform Sniffer Traces using Network General to obtain information for the diagnosis and resolution of complex network and application issues. Also, Serial analyzers were used to diagnosis serial connectivity (SNA) issues using the HP Internet Advisor. I also used Cisco Works, Cisco baseliner, Cisco CWSI, Sun Net Manager, HP Openview and many plugins such as Transcend for the NMS piece of the network.
Architect and implement SMC service card network design for HP Data Wharehouse infrastructure with 27 Terabytes of storage capacity. EMC2 SCSI array was used in for connecting 8 HP-9000 Servers with 6 network connections per device using FDDI dual homed concentrators. This infrastructure was built on highly available Cisco 7513 routers and Cisco 3900 Token ring switches. We used DLSW, as a migration from RSRB to obtain connectivity to the Mainframe for database transfers.

Local Security was provided by both Radius and TACACS+ in conjunction with Cisco Secure. Firewalls were also used such as, Cisco PIX, The Gauntlet, Checkpoint and others. Internet security was provided by Cisco Pix firewalls exclusively.

Business continuance and Disaster Recovery was designed using an out of state facility that could continue business in the event of Catastrophic events. The protocols used for this were OSPF, BGP, IP, IPX, DECNET, IS_IS, SMDS and Appletalk.
