___________________________________________________________ WORK EXPERIENCE: **Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA, Aug 2005 - present *Graduate Research Assistant (Aerospace Systems Design Laboratory - ASDL) -Co-developed a method to feed airplane geometry data from Excel spreadsheets into Unigraphics NX3 to develop parametric 3D airplane designs and overcome the difficulty in process replication for creating multiple 3D designs as a result of multi-disciplinary optimization. Developed parametric 3D gas turbine engine designs for space propulsion using CATIA V5 and performed preliminary structural analysis using ABAQUS -Co-developed a dynamic tool using Stochastic Petri Nets (SPN) to estimate reliability of domestic smoke alarms. The tool provided the ability for an analyst to modify reliability numbers at every stage of the functional flow diagram. Preliminary understanding of the problem was done using event trees, fault trees (FTA), reliability block diagrams (RBD) all part of ITEM Toolkit software package and performed top level failure mode, effects and criticality analysis (FMEA/FMECA) -Worked on an independent case study to understand the relation between methodologies like reliability centered maintenance, maintenance optimization and cost benefit analysis. -Working on a diverse range of topics including commercial air transportation system de-congestion, aircraft life cycle cost analysis, safety regulations and certifications on commercial aircraft and spacecraft flights, propulsion system modeling for a supersonic transport aircraft and preliminary engine weight estimation
**Mississippi State University, Mississippi State, MS, Aug 2002 -- July 2005 *Graduate Research Assistant, Summer semester (3 terms) -Worked on the application of deterministic optimization on analysis of low speed aerodynamics -Provided insights to improve landing performance of aircraft used in undergraduate design competitions
*Graduate Teaching Assistant, Fall & Spring semester (6 terms) -Worked as an instructor for an introductory course on aerospace flight mechanics and performance, taught software such as Unigraphics, Mathcad and MATLAB -Devised course material for all the teaching assignments
___________________________________________________________ RELEVANT COURSES: Aircraft design, Advanced design methods, Aerospace systems engineering, Advanced aircraft performance, Multi-disciplinary optimization, Unsteady aerodynamics, Introduction to flight test engineering, Aeroacoustics, Numerical Analysis, Propulsion System Design
___________________________________________________________ PROJECTS: *Notional 225 passenger aircraft design Contribution -- performed market analysis to present a business case to establish the need for a notional 225 passenger airplane, evaluated incorporation of new and existing technologies on existing baseline and set ranges to find optimum values, generated designs including random cases using Design of Experiments and Monte Carlo simulation to meet proposed stringent design requirements, down-selected from possible designs evaluating trade-off's using multi-attribute decision making tools and made suggestions for an economically feasible and viable design.
*Commercial air transportation system of systems Contribution -- estimated air travel demand and air traffic congestion, co-developed an improved and efficient trip distribution module in MATLAB. The model estimated trips made in the past and also predict the future demand for trips between city pairs all over the US using different modes of transportation including air, sea and road. This research was driven by the literature search performed to study current air traffic trends and establish the need for introduction of alternate modes of air transportation namely general aviation airplanes using the data in the 1995 American Travel survey.
*Propulsion system modeling for a supersonic transport aircraft Contribution - Incorporated changes in the existing NASA developed Numerical Propulsion System Simulation program to adapt use for proposed supersonic transport aircraft. Co-developed engine weight estimation code for supersonic variable cycle engines in C++ language based on fixed cycle engine weight code
*Benchmarking cost tools for estimating aircraft life cycle costs Contribution -- performed literature search to find existing tools used to estimate aircraft life cycle costs and studied the underlying assumptions and calculation procedure to estimate costs like manufacturing, operation, maintenance, among others. Results from relevant tools were benchmarked and compared with publicly available data on similar metrics of interest.
*Critical Space Exploration - ESAS Lunar Sortie System Human Rating Certification Plan Contribution -- proposed a certification plan to present guidelines for future commercial space flights based on modifications on existing framework documented for non-commercial operations and SAE ARP4761, ARP4754 and FAR Part 25 guidelines. Performed preliminary system safety assessment for key vehicle components by providing reliability estimates using Stochastic Petri Nets, Fault Tree Analysis and Reliability Block Diagrams analyses using ITEM software.
*Reliability centered maintenance, maintenance optimization and cost benefit analysis - the relation Contribution -- individual term paper written to establish the relation that exists or lack thereof between the above mentioned maintenance methodologies and their underlying assumption of operation and maintenance cost reduction including a comparative study on other existing maintenance methodologies.
