Selected Accomplishments
April 2007 -- Present
As a Co-founder and CTO for Freepath, I led product development in a hands-on fashion, helped drive the company's ongoing fundraising efforts, and contributed to business and product planning. The product is a unique Windows-based multimedia communication tool that uses a playlist and social network to enable users to easily create, share and show multimedia presentations in various settings.

June 2003 -- Present
As the technical Co-founder of Grass Roots Software, I negotiated the deal to purchase rights to an existing niche market software product. I led the technical and operational efforts of the company through two profitable years, during which time the company developed and launched a new product, which I pitched at the DEMO conference in February of 2006. I raised a small seed round of financing to launch and promote the product. We then spun this product out into a separate company and raised additional funds for its further development.

November 1999 -- June 2003
First as an Independent Software Developer, then as a Senior Software Engineer for Mountain View-based Pinnacle Systems, I developed video processing chip driver software, USB communications firmware, and external control protocol software for Pinnacle's PDS 9000 video switcher. This switcher runs the Windows CE operating system on two computers connected via Ethernet, and performs video switching and digital video effects in realtime on up to nine simultaneous independent video streams.

April 1999 -- November 1999
As the Director of Technical Services, and manager of a satellite office for Berkeley-based Bigfix, I led a team in the creation of specialized "active" internet content for timely, relevant messaging. As a senior manager, I also participated in strategic company technical and business decisions.

December 1997 -- March 1999
As Engineering Manager for the Grass Valley engineering lab of San Jose-based FlashPoint Technology, I led a team in the creation of parts of Digita, an embedded operating environment for digital cameras based on Wind River's VxWorks. Among other accomplishments, my team and I architected and designed Digita's hardware abstraction layer based on the Windows CE device driver model, and designed OEM tools to allow development of custom drivers. We also invented new technology to facilitate non-destructive image processing of digital images in cameras and other devices.

October 1995 -- November 1997
As Director of Product Development for the Home Division at Mindscape, I led ongoing product development efforts for several consumer products on Windows and Macintosh platforms. These included: Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing, The Complete National Geographic, Swinging Safari Adventure Center, Geobee Challenge, Printmaster Gold, and The Adventures of Peter Rabbit. The efforts of my colleagues and I during these years turned Mindscape into a profitable business that was sold by its parent company (Pearson, Limited) in the Spring of 1998.

February 1988 -- October 1995
As Project Manager for Grass Valley Group, I worked with key customers and led a team in requirements development, design and implementation of an integrated video production system for MS Windows. I also served as a member of a cross-functional strategic planning committee responsible for setting new product directions and engineering methods company-wide. As a Staff Engineer, I developed the overall system architecture for a new video production system; some of this work was patented. I also developed realtime control system software for Kaleidoscope and Kadenza, Emmy award winning digital video effects and compositing devices.

February 1985 -- February 1988
As Lead Software Engineer, for Forum Systems (originally Santa Barbara Labs) I designed MS Windows software architecture and user interface for office automation products incorporating voice, touchscreen, and telephony technology. I designed the overall architecture for an electronic mail application on proprietary hardware, and led its highly successful development effort. I also developed an innovative approach to the voice store and forward application for the company's products, allowing users to easily edit stored voice.

July 1984 -- February 1985
As a Software Engineer for Santa Barbara-based Renco, I designed, implemented and maintained software for real time servo motor controller products. I also designed and implemented data communications software at the driver, protocol and application levels for embedded systems.

September 1981 -- July 1984
As a Physicist for Jaycor in Santa Barbara, California, I developed, tested and maintained algorithms and computer programs used in computer simulations of complex physical problems, and created three dimensional graphics programs for viewing the results.

Education
Bachelor of Science in Physics from University of California, Santa Barbara. Completed courses in Computer Science and Electronics while at the University. Worked half-time to finance my education.
