PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
-----------------------
WESTELL TECHNOLOGIES, Aurora, Illinois 2006 - 2008
Provider of broadband customer premise equipment (CPEs) and internet gateways.

Systems Engineer: Engineered CPEs and Internet gateway devices connecting homes and business with the internet. Worked on DSL access, WAN and Private LAN networks consisted of computers, WiFI clients (e.g. laptops and dual mode cell phones), VoIP phones and other devices such as cameras, storage drives and printers.

* Responded to AT&T & Verizon RFIs for CPE devices. Ensured that product development met customer expectations.

* Wrote the Systems Engineering requirements and design specification for IMS/SIP gateway. This device provides DSL internet access and has WiFI, SIP and IPSec Clients capable of securely routing Data to/from five computers, four WiFI devices, two VoIP lines and a backup line automatically switching to PSTN when power outage or VoIP trouble occurs.

* Added support for Remote Management (TR-69 standards), auto installation, configuration, firewall, QoS mapping and VLAN tagging features making the product more competitive.

* Researched Femtocells for UMA, CDMA and UMTS networks. Presented my extensive analysis to the technical team and helped marketing and management assess the opportunity.

* Deployed Requirement Management Data Base and increased to the front end processes efficiency.

MOTOROLA, WIRELESS NETWORK DIVISION, Arlington Heights, Illinois 1993 - 2006

Worked in two Roles: Standards Leader (seven years) and Systems Engineer (Six years)

Principal of Technical Staff; Systems Engineering role (2000 to 2006)

Feature Architect for the CDMA and UMTS Wireless Systems. Worked on the architecture, design and requirements for the Radio Access Network (RAN), call processing, air interfaces implementation and compliance. Led feature teams and resolved customer and field problems.

* Architected systems and BTS (Base Stations) features. Translated market requirements to impact statements, produced budgetary estimates, authored concept design and engineering requirements, interacted with other subsystem teams and provided overall feature knowledge. Contributed to the testing plan, authored the final customer and deployment documentations. Added EVDO to all BTS product lines. Developed a new BTS and many IS-2000 features.

* Responded to customers inquiries related to systems operation and field problems. Performed technical analysis and provided resolution. Created ICD (interface Control Document) for L3 & L2 CDMA Air interface. Ensured standards compliance and shared these documents with customers on a release basis.

* Saved substantial software alteration and prevented adding unnecessary features to the system by correctly analyzing field problems with US mobiles roaming into Japan networks. Developed creative solutions and provided good options to the customer: Patent # CE16414R "Systems and Method for Adaptive Message Retransmission".

* Wrote requirements to support UMTS and CDMA radio access networks including Base Stations (BTS/NodeB), Controllers (BSC/RNC), user plane SDU (Selection and Distribution Unit), and interfacing to the PDSN (Packet Data Service Node).

Senior Staff Engineer; Standards Leader role (1993 to 2000)
Represented Motorola in the TIA and 3GPP2 Standards committees. Led important projects form start to finish. Authored standards proposals, chaired committees, directed work plans and managed the release of key wireless standards presently operational worldwide.

* Made hundreds of technical contributions to the CDMA network standards. Authored the first version of the A-Interface.

* Created the first version of the IOS (Interoperability Standards) which was accepted by 3GPP2 and evolved to become a critical set of standards for the CDMA/EVDO network. Led the committee and positively recognized by customers, vendors and the TIA/3GPP2 leadership. Authored IOS course and presented it in industry conferences worldwide, at Motorola University and Motorola customers. Served as TIA and 3GPP2 spokesman on IOS matters.

* Applied mobile IP to wireless and established the interface between the RAN and internet. Started the All IP work in 3GPP2. Chaired the IP in the RAN working group and pushed the adoption of IP and SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) in wireless and advanced Seamless mobility.

* Appointed by the TIA board and served on a special committee negotiating with global standards organizations in the formation and launching of 3GPP2 (CDMA standards body).

* Was recognized with two "Motorola Standards of the Year Awards" for playing a role in securing the first $150 million contract with Sprint and for releasing the IOS standards for the CDMA network. Also, Two Patents.

AT&T BELL LABS (Presently Alcatel-Lucent) / GTE COMMUNICATIONS 1984-1993

Worked as a Software Development Engineer and as a Systems Engineer for GTE Communications (1984-1988) and AT&T Bell Labs (1988-1993). Developed Centrex/PBX software and telephony features, wireless networks and standards.

* Covered the TIA standards body and worked on the air interface call control, mobility management and especially the interface between the radio equipment and core network. Worked on the air interface logical channel structure, access control and frame transmission, sleep mode mechanism, authentication and ciphering, call establishment, short message service, broadcast and ANSI-41 support.

* Developed Software using 'C' language for Centrex/PBX switching system. Developed ISDN call control and numerous user and system features including call waiting, caller ID, call routing, forwarding and automated announcements. Worked on Automatic Call Distribution (ACD) and feature phones, traffic analysis, reporting and billing records. Performed software and system integration testing.

EDUCATION

* Bachelor of Science, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University Of Illinois, Chicago. 1984.

* Finished one year toward Master in Telecommunication, DePaul University, Chicago, 1992.
