Sun Chemical Corporation February 1976 to August 1981 Western Division Engineering Manager / Project Manager Responsibilities included providing staff engineering services for seventeen (17) individual branch manufacturing plants from Cleveland to the west coast. Required preparation of annual capital budgets, evaluation of each manufacturing operation, new equipment justification, purchase and installation. Engineering of major construction projects at Sun Chemical plants and customer plants. The largest project responsibility was an $18 million construction expansion of a major manufacturing facility.
Fluor Pioneer Inc. May 1975 to February 1976 Senior Environmental Engineer Evaluations, reports and recommendations on the environmental aspects of power plant projects. Provided technical input into the effectiveness, application, construction and operation of pollution control equipment. Pollution control equipment included dry and wet collectors such as precipitators and scrubbers. Conducted training and discussions on power plant operations, auxiliary systems and energy conservation. Prepared environmental impact statements for submission to the Environmental Protection Agency. Primary assignments included being the project lead engineer for a Kentucky utility power plant site selection study and the environmental impact of high voltage transmission lines across Iowa.
Western Electric Company, Inc July 1970 to May 1975 Plant Engineer Power Generation Responsible for a major portion of the central plant at the Hawthorne Works Plant located in Cicero, Illinois. The central power plant provided all electric power, steam, compressed air and chilled water for the office and manufacturing facility which covered approximately twenty-five acres. Provided engineering support, design, specifications and construction management for the central plant's boilers, pumps, heat exchangers, air compressors, steam turbines and chemical water treatment. I ran regular efficiency tests and stack emission tests on all the boilers. Since the plant had the capability of burning coal natural gas and oil, I made recommendations for fuel selection and firing methods based on efficiency and compliance with state emission guidelines. Some of my other responsibilities were for the design and installation of piping and HVAC equipment for use in the office and manufacturing buildings.
Eaton, Yale & Towne June1967 to June1970 Automatic Lift Truck Division Design engineer responsible for the company's product line of heavy duty, custom built battery powered forklift trucks. Provided design drawings like the general layout of the vehicle and various detailed parts all per customer requirements. Hydraulics calculations, control linkages, motor sizing, turning radius and vehicle speeds were included in the designs. Also any manufacturing processes, fabrication, specifications, assembly schedules, final testing, stress analysis and load calculations.
