Key Achievements
Conceived and implemented a process that allowed the conversion of all episodes of South Park to a digital format and stored those files on the office server instead of on VHS tapes. Result: Saved the company $60K in production costs. Each episode is now available in digital format to every crew member at any time from any computer, including wireless laptops and Apple ipods.
Proposed a change in the current production sequence to allow for the set-up and the lip-sync phase to take place simultaneously. Result: Production time was reduced by more than 20% allowing the complexity and quality of the show to increase.
Generated a list of previous sequences from finished episodes and created a series of scripted to reuse previous animation for complicated scenes in a series, which includes crowd scenes and fighting scenes. Result: Animation time for complex sequences was reduced by 50%. Other animator began contributing recycled animation and the production now has an approved animation library.
Proposed a process that would allow the editor to render the current episode to the office server to maintain continuity during an on-going production to save time and energy. Result: The current episode can be viewed at anytime for any computer in the office, which reduces continuity errors.
Recommended that Widows computers be replaced with Macintosh G5s. Requested that the lead production team return early from hiatus for 10 days of professional training and the rest of the crew return 7 days early. Result: Production and crew members were certified on the new system prior to the beginning of the new season.
Led a select team of five to work out all of the possible pitfalls involved in converting the standard definition South Park Television series into high-definition. Result: The converted episodes are going to be released in the spring of 2007 for X-box and Play Station 3. All future episodes are going to be created with widescreen 16:9 framing at the 1080i resolution to allow for an easier conversion to high-definition in the future.
Proposed a color palette which all computers and software could share based on the Pantone color palette. Maintaining color quality, hue and saturation is difficult and can cost hours of production time. Result: Eliminated color matching errors pertaining to cross-platform situations.
Created workflow and protocols to handle the transition from standard definition to high definition. Result: A process that originally took 60+ hours of production crew time can now be completed in less than 10 hours with a new automated process.
