Bertie has over fifteen years of experience in the management, administration, design, development, and delivery of training. Using the ISD methodology, she has developed courseware for a wide variety of topics including proprietary systems on wide and local area networks, microcomputers, minicomputers, and mainframe systems. She has developed training and instructor guides, user manuals, system requirements documents, and standard operating procedures. She has managed training for a number of business units and training programs as well as help desk support. She has also conducted Train-the-Trainer training. She is currently preparing for her certification as a life coach with The Coaches Institute.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
TRAINING MANAGER (November 2004 to November 2005) SAIC - Manages training for 1400+ employees of the Federal Communications Solutions Business Unit of the Hughes Group. She ensures that corporate, group and business unit training objectives are met, works with management to develop training policies and procedures and to assess training needs of the organization. She implemented and configured a Learning Management System (LMS) for the business unit to automate the process of creating training plans and training budget data. She provides quarterly and yearly metrics reports to group level management as well as reports to Operation and Division Managers.
She manages training activities such as training announcements, scheduling and coordination of training for offsite employees, and promotion of special corporate and group level training projects. She is the liaison to the SAIC University for such diverse functions as e-Learning, CBT training, corporate, corporate required training and maintenance of training records. She provides a monthly schedule of training offered by SAIC University to all business unit employees.
She works actively to promote high visibility programs such as PMP (Project Management Professional) Certification and Project Management training within the Business Unit. She provides guidance to managers and employees regarding training planning, external training resources and pricing for technology training.
SENIOR TRAINING SPECIALIST (October 2000 to November 2004) AIM, Inc. - Assigned to the FAA NISC contract. Provided support to the Training Program Manager of the FAA ANI Engineering Division to administer all aspects of training for the NAS Implementation Program (ANI) Engineering Center and its nine Implementation Centers.
She prepared the organization for the Annual Call-for-Training by coordinating and reporting on training requirements for the upcoming year. She provided guidance to Engineering Center managers on training matters and designed and conducted a training program to ensure the successful completion of mandatory Three-Year Training Plans for all employees.
She provided reports and briefings of training completions and training funding. She also coordinated enrollments in instructor-led as well as distance learning training offered by the FAA Academy and the Center for Management Development. She implemented a reference center of training materials and course catalogues and also maintains employee training histories.
She represented ANI at the National Training Conference and prepared follow-up reports for all regional training coordinators. She also tracked and reported training expenditures required for the semi-annual Congressional Report. She managed the day-to-day coordination of training matters for the Engineering Center.
She has also provided training support to the STARS and Navigation/Landing Systems Programs. Supported the management, tracking and control of training program development as well as the implementation of new systems training. Provided support for training program management, including the evaluation of contractor developed training. Coordinated the communication of significant information among stakeholders across multiple organizations including Headquarters and the FAA Academy.
SENIOR INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER (September 1999 to October 2000) The Centech Group, Inc. - Assigned to the U.S. Customs contract. Designed, developed and delivered training to U.S. Customs personnel as well as to vendors who supported the system. Worked with stakeholders to analyze and define training needs for new and updated systems. Worked with SMEs to develop end user documentation accessible from the mainframe platform. Redesigned existing training materials to render them instructionally sound and converted them to computer-based training. Designed training for a host-on-demand project that and allowed users Intranet access to mainframe applications.
TECHNICAL TRAINING MANAGER (May 1996 to April 1999) GTE Government Systems - Assigned to the NYSE Wireless Data System contract. Responsible for the supervision of the design, development, and delivery of training for the Wireless Data System used by Brokers on the NYSE Trading Floor. Also responsible for supervision of User Help Desk and customer support activities.
SENIOR INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER (May 1995 to May 1996) Data Transformation, Inc. - Assigned to the DOJ (Department of Justice) FALCON Debt Collection System software development contract. Developed courseware and user documentation for proprietary system designed to track litigation and financial transactions. Provided software testing and analysis support as well as Help Desk troubleshooting support.
TASK MANAGER (October 1993 to May 1995) User Technology Associates - Assigned to the DoD Data Administration Program contract. Supervised the design and development of a course combining traditional lecture with color presentation slides and computer-based training designed to present DoD policy, standards and procedures established for data administration. Prepared Standard Operating Procedures for Bureau of Labor Statistics and Network User Guidelines for the Defense Nuclear Agency.
INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN CONSULTANT (February 1993 to September 1993) The Wyatt Company - Developed a customized Novell NetWare curriculum including the following courses: Introduction to the WYATT LAN, Introduction to DOS, Introduction to WordPerfect 5.1, Intermediate WordPerfect 5.1, and Using WordPerfect 5.1 to Create Proposals. Designed and developed The New User's Guide to the WYATT LAN for company new hires.
SENIOR INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER (February 1992 to February 1993) Innovative Compdata, Inc., then Management Technologies, Inc. - Assigned to the HUD SMIRPH (System for Management Information Retrieval-Public Housing) contract. Developed training materials for customized database reporting systems used nationwide on Novell Netware LANs. Delivered on-site customer training. In addition, provided help desk support to end users and software testing support to the programming staff.
TRAINING TASK LEADER (February 1990 to October 1991) Automation Research Systems, Limited, then AMA Technologies, Inc. - Assigned to the BATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms) contract. Supervised the development of training documentation and the delivery of on-site customer training to more than 100 customer sites. The curriculum included the following courses: Introduction to LANs (Local Area Networks), WordPerfect Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Skills, Courier Electronic Mail, FORMS Automation System (proprietary software) and Novell Netware System Administration.
TRAINER/INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER (June 1985 to February 1990) U.S. Senate Computer Center, ESS (Education and Support Services Section) - Provided classroom training for office automation software on microcomputer, minicomputer, and mainframe computer platforms. Designed and developed training documentation for a variety of software applications. Conducted train-the-trainer sessions for new instructors. Provided Help Desk support to end users.
