WORK HISTORY

VALENCIA SYSTEMS, ORLANDO FLORIDA (MAR 2000 - PRESENT)
Manager of Quality Assurance - Initiated a quality program and conducted extensive hands-on testing for a small start up company building Aruba, a web based network management product. Authored test plans, test scripts, defects and test reports. Performed functional tests, regression tests, installation tests, and performance benchmarks using manual techniques, SQL scripts and automated test tools. Used Java and Oracle technologies on Windows and UNIX systems.

Project Coordinator - An OEM variant of the Aruba product was developed for Packeteer. Managed four releases of this variant.

Accomplishments: Eliminated prior problem of buggy releases. Created test processes able to keep up with agile development of multiple releases per year. Efforts led to reduction in customer support staff. All OEM releases achieved on schedule.


PARAGON COMPUTER PROFESSIONALS, ORLANDO FLORIDA (OCT 1997 -MAR 2000)
Y2K Testing Manager for Honor Technologies - Managed Y2K testing effort on all software within the corporation. Started testing program from scratch, developing the Master Test Plan, various System Test Plans and all the worksheets used throughout. Trained and directed a staff of over 25 full time and matrixed testers. Reviewed and signed off all testing results. Testing covered all environments at HONOR: Tandems performing ATM transaction switching (Deluxe Advantage) and ATM Terminal Driving (ACI Base24); IBM mainframe performing settlement, adjustments and reporting; the LAN infrastructure; and facilities. Performed hands-on testing of several IBM mainframe COBOL applications. Created a Y2K problem report tracking system using Access.

Accomplishments: Y2K program successfully passed initial federal audit. Subsequent planned audits cancelled based on satisfactory quality of Y2K program. Y2K transition occurred without incident.


MAXWELL TECHNOLOGIES, ORLANDO FLORIDA (1995 - 1997)
Project Manager - Managed development of a criminal case file maintenance system to be used by 37 counties in Florida. Put together and ran a project team of new hires, subcontractors and consultants. Developed project plans, costing and scheduling. Managed design and development efforts. Responsible for relationship with complex network of customers. Project used Informix running on UNIX servers.

Quality Manager - Created the quality program at multiple sites for the Justice Systems business unit. Authored ISO 9001 Quality Plan. Assembled a testing staff, developed test plans and procedures. Initiated a Configuration Management program to track software bug resolution, control version releases and maintain the deliverables library. Also started a customer service help desk using the Remedy AR System. Helped develop service procedures and programmed portions of the Remedy application.

Accomplishments: Built project team from the ground up for a new business unit. Introduced ISO 9000 quality program into this unit. All this was accomplished within a company with little software development culture.


LOGICON, DAYTON OHIO (1988 - 1995)
Migration Services (1994-1995) - Provided technical and project management expertise to a team supplying mainframe to Client/Server (C/S) migration services for commercial customers. Responsibilities included business process modeling and reengineering, data modeling, assessments of customer C/S technology maturity, auditing legacy mainframe applications and evaluating for C/S migration, designing C/S architectures, creating application prototypes using C/S development tools, running Joint Application Design (JAD) sessions, making marketing presentations on migration services, and authoring proposals to commercial customers. These included Sherwin-Williams, Fabri-Centers of America, Canadian Tire Acceptance, Kmart Canada, and Lane Bryant.

Client/Server Software Development (1991-93) - Lead engineer for a large scale (200+ personnel) software development introducing client/server technology into a legacy mainframe application. Old application was developed using COBOL, ADS/O and IDMS on an ES-9000 mainframe. Project integrated graphical user interface front end with the mainframe using Motif and C on Sun workstations. Responsible for managing a group of 10 engineers developing system requirements and design.

Artificial Intelligence Software Development (1990-92) - Project manager and principle investigator for an artificial intelligence research project using neural networks to analyze radar signals. Developed project concept, located government sponsors, generated system design, coded portions of the software in C, and tested all applications developed. Co-authored and presented a paper on the project results at a NAECON conference. Subsequently used components of this project to prototype a manufacturing line quality inspection vision system for a pharmaceutical customer.

Marketing (1990-91) - Identified and pursued military business opportunities. Authored several technical proposals. Developed cost estimates. Contributed to 5-year forecasts. Trained on Miller-Heiman Strategic Selling.

System Analysis and Modeling (1988-90) - Project manager and analyst for evaluation of a real-time embedded airborne radar jamming system employing a high fidelity system simulation. Identified bugs and prototyped design alternatives.

Accomplishments: Successfully managed time and materials type contracts. Gained experience in formal software development processes (SEI). Gained experience in management techniques unique to very large projects. Helped migrate company defense expertise into commercial services.


COMPTEK RESEARCH, DAYTON OHIO (1978 - 1988)
Operations Management (1985-88) - Manager of Dayton operations for Comptek. Responsible for staff allocation, establishing and meeting overhead budgets, and personnel training. Conducted marketing and developed proposals to support the Dayton operation.

Real-time Software Development (1978-88)
-- Project manager and lead engineer on a real-time embedded radar signal analysis system for the government of Egypt. Authored requirements documents, interface control documents, user's manual and design documents. Also programmed executive control functions and data link functions in Fortran.
-- Project manager and lead programmer for maintenance of an airborne real-time embedded radar jamming system using assembler language.
-- Lead engineer for an integrated software development station and hot bench for an airborne radar jamming system. Authored user interface documents, developed top level system design, and conducted formal testing. Eventually stepped up to project manager role.

-- Started as an IV&V tester for an airborne real-time embedded radar jamming system
