Specialty Group Inc. June 2006 - Present Engineering Claims Examiner Jacksonville, FL * Examine Catastrophe Property Claims in the State of Florida to investigate hurricane impact on structural integrity of properties * Plan repair initiatives to roofing, framing, plumbing and hvac systems by analyzing drawings, making recommendations, communicating code requirements and working closely with contractors to support recovery and repair efforts * Assure adherence to policy limitations, code constraints and quality control systems to reduce errors and minimize costs * Provide expert engineering advice on a file portfolio consisting of over $ 50 million dollars worth of property damage * Analyze professional engineering and property appraisal reports for accuracy to determine actual cash value due home owners for property loss claims * Report to home owners summarizing their loss, concurrent settlement payments, and communicate general plan of attack for recovery and repair from an engineering perspective Praxair Incorporated June 2002 - May 2006 Development Associate, Process and Systems R&D: Cryogenics Tonawanda, NY * Develop manufacturing processes for producing quality, cost effective components to support low-temperature refrigeration technologies, by determining most effective assembly procedures, leading reliability initiatives, assessing mtbf data, complying with professional codes (ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code), conducting system tests to confirm performance. * Interface with design engineers and vendors to guarantee appropriate assembly while minimizing cost, by developing conceptual drawings, iterating through design concepts and assembly procedures, providing engineering expertise to eliminate unnecessary components and processes, conducting load and system failure studies and providing detailed instructions from BOM to final assembly and operating instructions. * Design and maintain mechanical equipment for various components by determining component specifications, such as geometries, materials, and configurations for optimum performance. Establish optimum working conditions and recommendations for component life cycle and upkeep to minimize failure and maximize reliability. * Produce technical documents and reports for presentations and business reviews. Document equipment test results, communicate system performance data and present appropriate intelligence to internal stake holders to secure further funding and support by upper level management. * Lead design reviews to understand and address reliability concerns, material constraints and cost reduction initiatives * Wrote several Patent Invention Disclosures to support intellectual property of proprietary research related to cryogenic refrigeration processes and systems. Prepared documents for patent reviews by legal professionals to support IP initiatives. Explain more, what did you do, and how, what does it ential
Georgia Institute of Technology Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning August 2000 - May 2002 National Science Foundation - Scientific Research Fellow Atlanta, GA * Designed Physics research curriculum and training material for secondary education * Led various initiatives to revise the strategic focus of scientific coursework and research projects for high school students * Administered and planned academic activities in Internal Combustion Engine Laboratory to assist undergraduate student learning by leading and designing experiments aimed at assessing the impact of various system parameters on engine performance * Thermodynamics teaching assistant, conduct some class sessions and study groups
ADVANCED RESEARCH * Truck Body Design project for Equipment Innovators of Marrieta, GA - 2000 Redesigned auto-truck body door for customized use in constrained operating environments. Managed a systematic design process to reposition door extrusions, insulation components, attachments and locking devices to ensure ease of use and accessibility. Process design changes and consulted with engineers to provide necessary advice to communicate sufficient manufacturing changes and component configuration. Scheduled plans for installation and maintenance of truck body door. Improved overall door operation and updated structural support systems to meet the needs of our improved design. Developed financial analysis to reduce manufacturing and materials cost.
* Airfoil Design, Georgia Institute of Technology - 2002 Researched airfoil dynamics in order to design airplane wings for two distinct regions; subsonic and supersonic flight. Developed computer programming code with MATLAB to produce data for streamlined wing geometries to achieve maximum lift and minimum drag. Resulting data was optimized using separate matlab code resulting in a final geometry with coordinates for upper and lower surfaces, maximum thickness, maximum camber, position of maximum thickness and camber, chord length and camber line. Interpreted resulting data to a commercial 3DCAD system, CATIA, to generate solid model of resulting geometry. Transported solid model into rapid prototyping system using Selective laser sintering (SLS) manufacturing process to produce a scaled model of the airfoils that were later tested in wind tunnels to validate MATLAB programming code.
