RESUME DETAILS
SUMMARY
I am an experienced senior level Oracle DBA/Developer. I have sixteen years of experience with Oracle versions 5 through 10g in which I have performed all traditional DBA duties.

EXPERIENCE
SENIOR ORACLE DBA; , Austin, TX. 2002 - Present
Representative achievements include:
* As the company's first Oracle DBA, I lead the company's transition to Oracle and established the development, test and production environments. This effort included: server and client software installations, software upgrades, developer and end-user training, backup and recovery procedures, instance and application tuning, database security, and migration scripts.

* Using Oracle Designer, I reverse engineered the existing data model in order to document the current system and to lay the foundation for new features. Working with the domain experts and Java application programmers, I developed both routine and unique additions to the data model. The company has received patents for the unique parts of the data model that I created.

* Using Oracle Forms, I developed several applications to create, edit and review the content data which drives the company's products. These tools are used daily and provide a robust and efficient work environment for the content editors to do their job. I received a special performance bonus for this work.

* Using PL/SQL, database packages, SQL*Loader and Linux shell scripts, I developed data validation software to insure correctness and consistency of content data. The software initially discovered over 30,000 content errors which were subsequently corrected using the tools that I developed. This software greatly streamlined the development and QA processes and insured data correctness.

* Worked on several special R&D type projects to provide functionality outside of the core development effort. Example projects include the development of a , and a for Medicare/Medicaid patients.

* Investigated Oracle RAC and Data Guard technologies in order to develop a roadmap for scaling our products from small to large groups of users. Developed a statistical model which predicts the hardware and software needed to satisfy performance, high availability, and disaster recovery requirements for a 24x7 ASP based upon the number of users.

SENIOR ORACLE DBA; Boatventures.Com, Virginia Beach, VA. 2000 - 2002
Representative achievements include:
* Using Oracle Designer and Oracle version 8i, I developed the logical and physical data models for a new database to support manufacturer and dealer websites for the power sports industries. As the lead DBA, I created the development and production instances for this database.

* Using Oracle version 8i, Oracle Failsafe, and standby databases, I designed and implemented the database servers for two new data centers. This effort included creating, tuning, managing and monitoring of the development and production database instances to support 24x7 e-commerce applications. This effort also included the implementation of backup and recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.

* Using Oracle version 8i, PL/SQL, SQL*Loader, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft Excel, I have written various routines to import and manipulate data from manufacturers and dealers.

* Using PL/SQL, I have developed libraries of stored packages and procedures to implement complex data access and processing by Java and ASP application programmers.

CONSULTANT; Bank of America, Norfolk, VA. 1999
Representative achievements include:
* Using Oracle version 8, Microsoft Access and Excel, I worked on special projects to clean up the database of credit card transactions for the U.S. government.

* Using Oracle version 8i, I established a new environment for special projects involving credit card transactions. The work included installing the Oracle software, creating the data model, and migrating data from Access into the new Oracle database.

ORACLE DBA/DELPHI PROGRAMMER; American Management Systems, Norfolk, VA. 1998 - 1999
Representative achievements include:
* Using PL/SQL, I developed interfaces to transfer data to and from remote legacy systems in order to interface with various systems that tracked naval aviation. As the project DBA, I reviewed, managed, and coordinated changes to the database and assisted with configuration management across several instances.

* Using Oracle version 8 and Delphi version 4, I developed prototypes for the Reports and Copy subsystems for a system that manages maintenance on ships for the U.S. Navy. I performed the requirements analysis for those subsystems. I implemented the System Administration subsystem in Delphi version 4.

DATA MODELER/ORACLE DEVELOPER; Quintiles (Consultant), RTP, NC. 1997
Representative achievements include:
* Developed the logical and physical data models for the collection and analysis of data from clinical drug trials.
* Developed test data to verify that the systems performed as required.

ORACLE DBA/DEVELOPER; COBRO Corporation, St. Louis MO. 1991 - 1996
Representative achievements include:
* Using Oracle version 7.3.2 and the Developer 2000 tools in a Unix client server environment, I served as the systems and database administrators, as well as the lead analyst and lead developer for the implementation and fielding for Uniram v. 4, a RAM data management system for the US Army. My assignments included: setting up, tuning, and managing the development and production systems, converting data entry forms from a character to a GUI interface, developing stored procedures and packages to move processing from a standalone DOS computer to the Solaris server, implementing replication and auditing functions through snapshots and database triggers, and managing the system via shell scripts. I also performed end-user and DBA training.

* Using Oracle version 6.0, I led the development of Uniram v. 2 and v. 3. My tasks included: revising the logical and physical data models, designing and developing data entry forms in SQL*Forms (v. 3.0), writing PRO*C user exists, and coding the menu and help systems in SQL*Menu (v. 5). I also supervised three coworkers in developing output reports and data migration software in SQL*Plus, PL/SQL, and SQL*ReportWriter. As the project DBA, I did all application and Oracle instance tuning for performance improvements and provided project documentation.

* Using Oracle version 5.1.C, I partook in the development of Uniram v. 1. My tasks included: development of the logical data model, setting up standard output reports with SQL*Plus, and coding the menu and help systems using SQL*Forms (version 2.3).

SENIOR PROGRAMMER/ANALYST; COBRO Corporation, St. Louis MO. 1987 - 1990
Representative achievements include:
* Using descriptive statistics and linear regression, I analyzed the effects of using metal vs. fiberglass rotor blades on the RAM characteristics of the army's AH-1F helicopters. This SAS-based analysis led to an Engineering Change Proposal to improve the design of the fiberglass rotor blade.

* As the lead programmer/analyst, I organized and designed a new effort for the army's Communications and Electronics Command. Using SAS, I developed an interactive Milestone Tracking System using CPM-like techniques and Gantt charts to manage the fielding of equipment.

* Using hypothesis testing, trend analysis, and non-parametric techniques, I performed a SAS-based analysis of the effect of allowing field personnel to bend trim-tabs on the CH-47D helicopter.

* Using Basic and Fortran, I enhanced software to model, analyze, and display the RAM parameters, costs, and required spares for a system, based on Life Data of the system's individual components.

* Using SAS and REX, I developed the methodology and software to quantify and report the Operating and Support Costs of army helicopters based on flight and maintenance data. I supervised coworkers in the development, use, and enhancement of the system. The army proclaimed the resulting reports as the best work ever produced by COBRO.
* Worked with a team to collect and analyze data on new maintenance policies for the UH-1H helicopter. By using Contingency Tables and Hazard Functions, this effort verified that the new maintenance policies lowered maintenance costs without any significant effect on reliability, availability, or safety.

* Using PC REX, PC SAS, and QMF, I organized and implemented the automation effort for the collection and analysis of data obtained from war games. This effort included the programming for data entry, quality control, and reports plus the recruitment, training and direction of another programmer.

* Investigated the state of Expert Systems technology, its use in the defense industry, and its potential applications for COBRO and our clients. This led to a briefing for top-level management that helped to formulate plans and budgeting. Implemented an Expert System in VP/Expert.
