____________________OBJECTIVE____________________ A challenging Design Engineering position in a growth oriented organization that offers diverse job responsibility. My hopes are to be in a CAD engineering environment that will utilize and refine my design skills and knowledge as a CAD Design Engineer.
____________________EXPERIENCE____________________ 2009 - Present - CAD / CAM Designer Demmer Corporation, Lansing , MI * Design 3D math tooling models, detail design drawings for armored vehicles, mechanical equipment, stretch & vacuum form dies using Catia V5 and Unigraphics NX 6 for the Aerospace & Defense industry. * Examined engineering drawings of military and commercial parts, assemblies, and installations to detect errors in design documents.
2001 - 2009 - Design Engineer Benteler Automotive, Auburn Hills, MI My responsibilities where to develop and improve products or tooling designs that are cost-effective to manufacturing using existing or imminent new manufacturing technology, meet or exceed design specifications, and are within reliability standards. I accomplish these responsibilities under the guidance of a Project Engineer, typically as a member of a design team. Depending on the task at hand I may supervise the work of one or four Layout Designers under me. * Developed 3D math models, detailed design drawings and specifications for stamped components, mechanical equipment, fixtures and stamping dies tools using Catia V4, Catia V5 and Unigraphics NX5. * Engineering knowledge and experience has come from designing automotive stamping components, front suspension modules, rear suspension modules, corner modules, cross-members suspension, welded sub-frames, suspension components, suspension links, control arms, knuckles, twist beam rear axles, toe links, camber links, sway bars, brackets, bushings & structural components for hydro-forming, roll forming, stretch bending and extrusion. * Coordinated with and consulted other workers to design, layout, and detail components and module systems and to resolve design and other problems. * Conferred with customer representatives to review 3D models/ drawing/ schematics and answered questions pertaining to part/assembly design of chassis components, weight reduction and fatigue. * Recommended design modifications to eliminate stamping parts and module system malfunctions. * Lay out and drew schematic, orthographic, and angle views to depict functional relationships of stamped components, assemblies, module systems and stamping dies. * Added Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance to 2D prints with cost estimation approval. * Lay out, drew, and reproduced illustrations for reference manuals and technical publications to describe operation and maintenance of chassis module systems. * Modified and revised chassis system designs to correct operating deficiencies and to reduce production problems. * Reviewed and analyzed customers specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs and the procedures and instructions to be followed. * Trained other drafters, technologists, and technicians in using of CAD software. * Created bill of materials to be used for assembly and assigned part numbers to all components. * Designed scale or full-size blueprints of specialty items, such as automobile parts and chassis components manufactured by supplier. * Computed mathematical formulas to develop and design detailed specifications for components and machinery, using computer-assisted equipment. * Positioned manufacturing instructions and comments onto drawings. * Design and develop hydro-form tubes for cross-members and assembly. * Created 3D model & mid surfaces files in .iges and .step format for FEA. * Utilized knowledge of engineering practices, mathematics, building materials, manufacturing technology and related physical sciences to develop new product design. * Created preliminary and final sketches of proposed drawings, using standard drafting techniques and devices. * developed the structural design of products, using drafting tools and computer-assisted design/drafting equipment and software.
1998 - 2000 - Design Engineer Tri-M-Mold, Stevensville, MI My responsibilities where to design die cast dies and execute both routine and non-routine creative design tasks that have been outlined only in a vague, partially complete way by a supervisor, or in response to complex product characteristics needs that have been identified or only vaguely defined in various meetings with customers and/or manufacturing. * Reviewed and analyzed customers parts specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting the development of the die cast mold tools 3D models. * Developed / imported customers 3D production math model and added draft to the models for the creating of the tooling models. * Developed single or multi cavity die cast mold base on production quantity, part size and machine shot size. * Created mold bill of materials from suppliers stock items catalog to create the die cast mold. * Designed mold's cavity blocks, cover & ejection shoes, ejection plates, ejection pins, guide pins, runners, ,oil manifold, shot block, rack & pinion, overflows, gates and water lines to manufacture the die cast mold. * Conferred with customer representatives to review mold tooling and answered questions pertaining to maintenance of tooling costs, production life of the die and quality of parts. * Created 3D models for the development of cutter paths on the CNC machines and detailed design drawings for the shop floor mold marker using Catia V4 and Auto-CAD. * Assisted with ISO 9000 inspection after receiving training is ISO 9000. * Self-taught basic Catia V4 from the book "Inside Catia" by Paul Carman
