Experience Boeing Defense, Space & Security, Space Exploration division Senior Engineering Manager 2009-Present * Engineering Functional manager for Space Exploration-Houston project engineers and managers. * Representative for the division Chief Engineer to the Boeing Defense Space & Security Process, Tools and Training organization * Leading the division initiative to obtain a CMMI-DEV Level 3 rating in 2012 * Responsible for partnering with the IT business partner to reduce overhead costs and define Space Exploration tool architecture across multiple sites. * Defined and implemented a web based Engineering Tools Database to capture inventory, usage, training and costs. Integrated Team Director - Backup Flight System (BFS) 2003-2005 * Relocated the Level 5 CMM certified BFS software from Huntington Beach to Houston following Columbia Space Shuttle accident. * Worked with incumbents to develop job descriptions then recruited, interviewed and hired a new BFS team. Organized a 6-month training and qualification program on complex BFS software architecture and proprietary computer language with incumbent team. * Completed transition of the Backup Flight System, while hiring and training 70 managers and engineers, 5 months ahead of schedule and without any process or product escapes. * Implemented and led a Configuration Control Board to review and approve changes to transitioned processes and product changes to deliverable products. * Presented with the NASA Space Flight Awareness Award at NASA`s 2005 conference in Nashville.
Software Engineering Manager 1995-2003 * Relocated from Seattle to Houston to join the Node Control Software team on the International Space Station. Promoted to management in 1997. * Directed a team of 20 Houston-based Boeing engineers working on the first release of the software and 10 Honeywell engineers in Phoenix who developed a second release. Traveled frequently between Houston and Phoenix to manage the teams, review schedules and resolve product issues. * Successfully launched Node Control Software in 1998, the first American software on the Space Station. The astronaut team reported that the software ran -flawlessly.- * Assembled a new team to develop the Hub Control Software for the International Space Station, while continuing second release of the Node Control Software. Introduced new software development processes and tools including UML and Rational Rose. * Transitioned maintenance of software controlling the Space Station`s photo arrays from Canoga Park to Houston. Assembled a Houston team to train with the software`s key architects in Canoga Park on all the processes, products and hardware. * Implemented standard software project management tools, a significant improvement over earlier spreadsheets and project schedules that led to earned value accounting.
