Basel II Implementation
As per the Basel II Capital Accord, State Street is required to internally rate counterparty at the legal entity level and maintains a Central Risk Data repository (RDR). This repository which is like a warehouse creates a snap-shot of data needed for risk computation across Enterprise at pre-defined time intervals. Information from this application contributes to generating the State Street Bank's economic capital, as required by SR99-18 and Pillar II of Basel II. This system supports the requirements for generating the regulatory capital calculation as per the Basel II accord.
Responsibilities:
Articulated business requirements as use cases for different components for the Risk Weighted Asset (RWA) calculation system. Assessed Credit Risk strategies with various internal credit tools and implemented Basel II strategies to augment Credit availability. Implemented Rational Unified Process (RUP) for data sourcing project. Used UML methodology for gathering requirements and creating use case and class diagrams. Worked with Investment Professionals, Financial Analysts as well as other business teams on requirement gathering. Identified data requirements from source systems and defined ETL processes for extracting data from external systems. Mapped hierarchies to be set up in the system for all counterparties (including counterparties to Account), collateral issuers and guarantors to determine the level of implementation. Helped the technical team with the business proposal documentation and presentation. Met with client groups to determine user requirements and goals. Analyzed business requirements and segregated them into high level Use Cases and Class Diagrams. Developed documentation (Requirements Document, Functional Specification and Testing Plans). Responsibilities:
Helped identify, gather the data from existing systems to calculate results for market risk. Involved in the process of mapping the required data elements from the various Source Systems. Helped identify and map source data for calculating VaR metrics. Helped develop requirements, workflows, and related documentation to support the existing and proposed internal Loss Data Collection process. Use SQL to slice and dice and generate dummy reports. Involved in the integration of various decentralized reporting systems and data marts to enable them to push data into an Integrated Staging Database, from which data can be transferred to the central Reporting Data Repository after ETL process.
