Operates and performs maintenance on alarm systems, warning and indicator systems, and ship's control systems. Operates electronic test and metering equipment, including multimeter, voltmeter, ammeter, ohmmeter, oscilloscope, signal generator, frequency meter, vacuum tube voltmeter, and megger; makes wire splices; tests and operates alarm and indicating systems; troubleshoots and repairs synchro systems; inspects, tests, maintains, charges, and replaces batteries; repairs components of general announcing systems, cleans and inspects interior communications equipment for continuity, short circuits, and grounds and measures electrical quantities; reads and interprets schematic diagrams and blueprints of electrical, electronic, and logic circuits. Isolates and repairs malfunctions in electronic circuits; inspects and cleans commutators and adjusts brushes on motors and generators; inventories installed equipment and spare parts.
Checks operating logs and maintenance records; prepares weekly reports and maintenance schedules. Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on pressure alarms, temperature alarms, liquid-level alarms, salinity-indicating systems, fire room emergency alarms, and wrong-direction alarms on a propulsion alarm and indicating system.
Performs identification, removal and application of conformal coatings, removal and replacement of discrete and multi-lead components, preparation and installation of eyelets, repair and replacement of conductors and laminates, proper connection of wires to terminal and connector cups, and other related repairs. Repairs conducted using approved equipment and practices as authorized in the Standard Maintenance Practices Miniature/Micro miniature (2M) Electronic Assembly Repair.
Operates and performs organizational level maintenance on a variety of Ship's
Information, Training and Entertainment (SITE) Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Systems, Able to describe the theory associated with the interior communications system with reference to video signal generation, processing, and storage; perform preventive and corrective maintenance on monochrome and color video cameras, receivers, and recorders; and apply the appropriate theory to the operation and maintenance of RF transmission, reception, and distribution systems.
