Dow Jones and Company (DJ), South Brunswick, NJ 2/1983 -- 2/2009
Senior Technical Consultant (1/2005 -- 2/2009)
Lead virtual project teams that architect and implement solutions to remediate aging production infrastructure. Responsible for program management, budget management, systems solutions and project management.
• Led project team to define, develop and institute the process for handling end of support-life servers. Managed an extremely successful NT Upgrade Project, replacing or eliminating 793 NT systems.
• Formalized the server decommissioning process and created the workflow in Excel. Processed over 975 systems to date, reclaiming software licenses, updating maintenance contracts and reclaiming data center environmentals (space, power, cabling and HVAC).
• Developed an ITAM prototype system (Phoenix) in support of the Server Refresh Program, Data Center and Systems Administration Support Groups. Collected/compiled asset data, generated reports to support workflow processes, projects and executive metric reporting.
• Led the Sun Microsystems Solaris server virtualization effort to compliment DJ's corporate VMWare virtualization thus saving data center space, power and HVAC requirements. Organized an in-house Sun virtualization training class to support new infrastructure.
• Created a diverse power audit report for servers and created a conversion day tracking script for the Data Center Power Project Team. The audit and script helped reduce the expected outages by 8 to 15 fold with the successful migration of 820 servers to the new diverse sourced static switches.
• Saved DJ over $100,000 (in less than 2 months) by creating and implementing a process to reroute decommissioned servers destined for a paid scrapper to a 'New' trade-in pool.

Manager of Systems Administration (9/1997 -- 12/2004)
Managed team of 13 UNIX and Windows Systems Administrators in support of major business initiatives for The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) and Barron's. Responsible for Engineering Department's servers (100+), computer rooms, network infrastructure, workstation and desktop systems along with supporting development infrastructure, Quality Assurance (QA) environments, system-integration, production delivery and turnover to operations support.
• Created Disaster Recovery (DR) Production model for Barron's and WSJ by improving inconsistent DR test process by collaborating with cross functional workgroups resulting in a reduction of recovery time from over 9 hours to just over 3 hours.
• Infrastructure Coordinator during the 9-11 disaster making sure all primary systems were failed over from the World Financial Center to the New Jersey Campus and organize the setup of the News -- Editorial Newsroom relocation. The Wall Street Journal did not miss a single day of publication.
• Created and supported an innovative, multi-parallel test environment for DJ's Enterprise Advertising Project and meeting the project's extremely aggressive time line.

Development Team Lead (3/1994 -- 8/1997)
Led a development team of 6 dedicated to the DJ -- West Publishing corporate relationship. Worked with internal DJ product and server groups and West counterparts to deliver DJ based business data to West customers.
• Provided West Publishing access to Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) corporate filings and proxy statements by working with Fed Filings (DJ subsidiary) and internal development groups to process the SEC data feed into tagged documents allowing West and DJ electronic customers text searchable access.
• Insulated DJ's highest paying customer (West Publishing) from interruptions of service and changes to service access, by implementing a request engine (a service oriented architecture [SOA] precursor). The request engine's interface to West was consistently available while backend DJ services systems were replaced.

Software Engineer - Senior Software Engineer (1983 -- 1994)
• Designed and implemented innovative solution to Monitor and Control (M&C) satellite earth-station equipment of multiple sites from a centralized control center.
• Quickly learned the MAC platform to create the Classified Ad Material user interface.
This software is still in production today!
