Designed, created, and maintained user documentation (user guides, quick guides, FAQs and product specific Help files) based upon user interface specifications, prototypes, and other input from the software variant team or product program. As part of a global Content Management team, my responsibilities included:
Writing the English version of bilingual and tri-lingual printed user guides for the North America, Latin America (LTA) and Brazil markets * Organizing content, legal and editorial reviews concerning the approval of the user guides * Working in both an unstructured (Framemaker) and a structured content creation environment (Framemaker+SGML and Epic Editor+XML). * Creating and revising same source XML modules for content reuse. * Developing information design for the North American operator-specific user guides. * Creating phone display texts for the US English, French Canadian, LTA Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese languages. Managing documentation projects to meet project milestones. Interviewing subject matter experts to obtain information about product-specific features and services. Researching engineering and marketing specifications and product features. Designing, developing, and maintaining web content for my business unit's intranet pages. Acting as a contact person for user documentation content-related issues with research and development and product programs, localization coordinators, graphics creation, other Nokia Content Management teams, and external partners. Participating in Nokia-specific, consumer level testing program conducted at different Nokia sites around the world. I tested prototype products and provided feedback to the product programs. Collaborating with other information designers and technical writers periodically to ensure user documentation was constantly being improved and stream-lined. Our contributions were part of a user guide optimization effort, which resulted in a 40% reduction of user guide page count.
1998- INTERSTATE BATTERY SYSTEM OF 2002 AMERICA (IBSA) -- Dallas, Texas Senior Technical Writer
Provided hardcopy documentation and web content to over 300 IBSA American and Canadian distributorships and to the IBSA Dallas-based Home Office team members. I was the acting departmental manager in my manager's absence. I was also a winner of the IBSA Crystal Award, which was granted to a select group of employees for outstanding job performance. Some of my projects for the Documentation Team included:
Developing content for IBSA's internal web sites (for both distributors and Home Office employees). I collaborated frequently with the Interactive Communications Designer regarding design and development of the web sites. Creating web-based Help files for internally created software applications. Quality assurance testing of internally created software applications. Evaluating, testing and recommending externally created software for the Documentation Team. Due to evaluation results, budget approval was awarded for the team to install various software applications for use in our projects. Documenting processes, designing work flows and updating/expanding the online library (for training IBSA employees). Designing, creating and writing the Handheld computer user manual for IBSA's distributors. I interfaced extensively with the development team on this $6 million project. Spearheading the efforts to coordinate the distribution of the documentation regarding each update (approximately four to six updates annually) of the primary accounting software program. The documentation was produced in both online and hard copy formats. Writing Customer Requirements Specifications, Project Definition Statements and training procedures for the Documentation Team and other IBSA groups. Internally reviewing other technical writers' documentation for consistency, format and quality.

As the Publications Services expert on proper format and content of corporate policies and procedures, I was part of the team to bring the training division's goal of ISO 9000 certification to fruition. Other facets of my multi-tasking career for this leader in the defense training and simulation market included:
Writing Publications Services and other departments' policies and procedures. Organizing efforts to convert and maintain company documentation online. Reducing company paper costs by 8% through coordination of posting documentation on the company's Intranet. Supervising and training subcontractor editors. Initiating the launching and operation of the company's hard copy informational bulletin board, which was created to boost employee morale and unify the training teams nationwide. Assisting graphics artists with flowcharts and other graphics needs.
