We are seeking a Systems Engineer, Monitoring and Reporting to develop strategic monitoring and reporting solutions that facilitate the business and operational needs of Synacor.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Architect, develop, and enhance the Network Management System (NMS)
• Enhance the reporting platform to meet the needs of both executive and operational management
• Provide auditing to ensure accurate monitoring of all devices, services, and processes
• Ensure that trending for servers, network devices, and customer application (portal) statistics are being correlated with server and network issues
• Work with management and internal customers to verify that we have proper monitoring thresholds for all metrics
• Modify, enhance, or create the monitoring/reporting software necessary to perform the data collection and event generation
• Perform NMS software administration (maintenance, upgrades, daily)
• Identify and recommend monitoring solutions based on changing technology
• Educating the Network Operations Center on proper usage of tools to quickly identify issues and triage solutions
• Create a workflow system that will integrate incident documentation with alerts to automate triage and process requirements

What you'll need to bring to the table:
• Proven experience designing and administering monitoring and reporting solutions in a high availability environment with tools such as Perl, Shell scripting, SNMP, and RRD tool
• 5+ years of Linux/Unix System Administration experience
• Administration experience working on a Network Management System such as Zenoss, Big Brother, Cacti, or Nagios
• The ability to find elegant ways of programmatically retrieving data from non-trivial sources
• Solid communication skills, both oral and written
• Proven team building and leadership skills, combined with the ability to self motivate without direct supervision
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science
• Strong project management skills
