Access Staffing is conducting a search for a Senior Database Administrator and Architect, with background in a Unix-based RDBMS.

This is a direct/permanent position located in New York City (Manhattan) with a prestigious, established financial firm offering bonus and benefits packages in addition to a competitive salary. Candidates with US citizenship or US permanent residency are encouraged to apply. We are unable to sponsor or transfer H-1B visas for this position. Local candidates and candidates not requiring relocation assistance are being considered initially. Relocation assistance is not available.

Responsibilities include:
- Design and Implement database architecture and design, including SQL development, in a Postgres/Informix/Unix environment (note: neither Postgres nor Informix experience is required. See below)
- Monitor and evaluate database and application performance and undertake appropriate database tuning efforts.
- Installation, configuration, upgrading and evaluation of database server software and related products.
- Establish and maintain sound backup and recovery policies and procedures.
- Perform capacity planning.
- Implement and maintain database security.
- Implement and maintain data release processes
- Setup and maintain documentation and standards.

Skills sought:
- Undergraduate or Graduate degree with a high G.P.A in Computer Science or Engineering from a top-tier school required
- Proven experience at a senior level in both a database administrator and a database architect role for large, mission critical SQL database management system in a Unix environment
- Experience with Postgres and Informix is a plus but not required; however, the position requires the administration of these two database platforms and would require the candidate to show an ability to quickly learn these two platforms.
- Proficiency with SQL, scripting languages and relevant database replication/backup tools.
- Highly motivated with a high sense of urgency and accountability; Strong accuracy and attention to detail.
- A team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills
