The Storage Area Network Administrator is responsible for installation, upkeep, and provisioning of storage and storage network systems in University data centers. The position exits to provide a stable and sustainable continuity of the storage and storage network architectures providing the foundation for centralized storage systems. This position will work very closely with various groups in ITaP to ensure storage systems hardware needs are met and standard configurations are utilized. The successful incumbent will also assist in the development and testing of the Disaster Recovery Plan for storage. This position will recommend future direction for storage systems and emerging technologies and tactics to best serve ??Purdue and ITaP ?strategic needs. Supervisor storage area network staff. Set expectations & focus, assign duties, delegate ?responsibilities, evaluate activities, prepare performance appraisals & professional development plans. Manage the ?administrative process for assigned staff including hiring, promotions, terminations, disciplinary procedures, ?and salary ?adjustments.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:
•Bachelor's degree.
•Three years of experience supporting software and hardware ?products in a large ?complex multi-platform environment.
•Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience.
•Troubleshooting and analysis skills.
•Ability to work proficiently in UNIX and Windows operating systems environments.
•Excellent teamwork and teambuilding skills.
•Strong oral and written communication ?skills.
•Good organizational skills and the ability to document and communicate complex ?concepts.
•Ability to work on cross-functional teams providing technical direction for storage and ?backup issues.
•?A solid understanding of at least one Enterprise Class operating systems in use (Windows NT/2000/2003, IBM AIX, SUN Solaris, HP-UX, Linux).
•Understanding of file system and networking concepts.
•Understanding of volume management software.
•Understanding of storage performance monitoring and tuning.
•Understanding of RAID disk subsystems in use (EMC Symmetrix and DMX).
•Understanding of Storage Area Network and Network Area Storage designs and principles.
•Understanding of hardware administration and support for Brocade storage switches.
•Understanding of system back-up and restore principles and products (TSM).
•Understanding of principles, practices, and administration of technical issues.
•Self-motivated, work independently with minimal supervision, and possess problem solving ability to ?diagnose problems with complex hardware/software systems and ?develop solutions to their problems.?
•Ability to lift and carry 10-25 pounds frequently and 40 pounds occasionally.

Preferred:
•Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field.
•Hands on experience the following software and hardware ?products: EMC Symmetrix, EMC Clariion, EMC Celerra, EMC Centera, EMC Control Center, EMC Workload Analyzer, IBM Tivoli Storage Manager, NetApp VTL, NetApp FAS Series.
•Experience installing and maintaining enterprise class backup and recovery software such ?as IBM's TSM.
•Hands on experience working in a large fiber channel SAN with multiple directors, ?servers, and storage frames.
•Experience in highly available systems, Clustering, Replication, Snapshots, Mirroring, and other DR and Business Continuity practices.
•Experience in vendor relationship management, problem escalation, and software product selection.
•Experience troubleshooting server, storage, and network issues and problems.
•Experience monitoring and analysis for storage across multiple operating ?systems environments (Solaris AIX, VmWare, Windows).
