Position: Sr. DWBI and Analytics Architect Job Incumbent:
Reports to: Vice President IT Department: Information

Job Purpose:
Reporting to VP, PMO and DWBI, responsible for significantly improving the company's ability to make business decisions using data and sophisticated analytics. Scope of responsibility will include understanding current and future business needs, formulating solutions and architecture, creating road-maps and detailed plans, guiding team members with technical work, and taking initiative to carry out hands-on work when necessary to meet business objectives.

Principal Responsibilities:

• Liaison with business and IT executives and team members to understand current and future business needs, portfolio of initiatives, and urgency of action in DWBI and Analytics areas
• Assess gaps between business needs and current outputs from DWBI/Analytics groups; formulate short term and long term solutions to meet business needs
• Create alternative approaches and make recommendations for systems building and maintenance using industry best practices
• Liaison with the IT Infrastructure and Architecture teams to make sure that recommended solution and approach are in line with overall IT direction and standards
• Develop and implement proactive steps including preventative maintenance to ensure uninterrupted operation of existing DWBI/Analytics services
• Calculate and report on TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) and ROI (Return on Investment) of DWBI and Analytics initiatives
• Liaison with the IT Business Analyst group to understand and deliver to the business community the tools, data elements and information required to support corporate decision making
• Conduct research into and execute on current and emerging database, data warehouse, ETL and report writing technologies and issues to support new development efforts.
• Find opportunities for application of advanced analytics (data mining, optimization, simulation etc.) techniques to enhance decision making throughout the organization
• Liaison with external vendors and evaluate the tools available in the marketplace that are suited to our organization; make recommendations to IT executives on tools adoption, use and retirement
• Implement the necessary architecture, data modeling and development tasks for the ETL, Database Design, Reports and Analytics areas; carry out hands-on work when necessary to meet timeline and business objectives
• Perform as technical leader of a team of 3 to 4 developers/analysts to implement new projects and continuous improvement initiatives, working hands-on when necessary.

• Act as a thought leader on use of data and analytics to make business decisions • Act as a thought leader on DWBI and Analytics related tools, technologies, and best practices
• Liaison with the IT Project Management Office to ensure the Business Intelligence team is adhering to PM/IT Governance standards and are meeting and/or exceeding agreed to milestones/targets.
• Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, skills and experience:

• Master's degree in Computer Science or other highly technical discipline, MBA, PhD in a science discipline preferred
• 12-15 years relevant working experience in an IT department with deep expertise in DWBI and Analytics disciplines
• 5 years relevant working experience in a retail systems environment preferred.
• Experience in working with senior business and IT executives to assess current state and formulate and implement solutions
• Proven experience as thought leader in Architecture, DWBI, and Analytics
• Experience leading architecture and DWBI/Analytics engagements for large companies to address complex business issues
• Experience in various source systems (e.g. ERP, legacy databases) and integration technologies (e.g., SOA, middleware, ETL)
• Experience with multiple databases, e.g., Oracle, DB2, AS/400
• Experience in data mining/Analytics algorithms and applications
• Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
• Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated experience in leading a team or group.

Must be able to set up the direction, formulate strategy and deliver long-term results in line with the corporate IT business strategy and direction.
