Description
The Database Administrator and the Senior Database Administrator function as high-level technicians that work on a large and complex multi RDMS environment (DB2 UDB). As a member of a team of DBA's, the DBA and Sr. DBA should be capable of thinking independently, but operating in a team environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
* Good knowledge of SQL for DB2.
* Data Warehouse
* Conduct Development/Architects of UDB
* Perform capacity planning activities as related to database storage
* Assist with the Mainframe production support, including participation in production on call rotation.
* Familiarity with Mainframe tools, programs, utilities as well as DBA tools, i.e.; ISPF, Clist, DFDSS/ABARS, Omegamon for IMS, Cobol, CICS, MQSeries, Librarian, Erwin, DBArtsisan
* Works closely with ETL team, application development and information delivery teams.
* Suggests and implements departmental standards and procedures for Database administration.
* Work with database vendors and external support on issues such as upgrades, technical problems and solutions
* Develops, tests and implements backup and recovery strategy
* Follows division*s change control and application deployment and access control procedures.
* Develops database monitoring procedures and utilities.
* Coordinate with other DBA*s/teams on infrastructure enhancements or large development projects
* Conduct performance monitoring and optimize physical design for various DB access methods for DB2.
Experience Required
* Five to Eight years experience in Mainframe Database Administration for DB2
* Participation on larger projects that require understanding of a software development life cycle and methodology.
* At least four to five years experience in the design, development and support of both large OLTP and Data Warehousing related databases and applications.
Production Support Analyst (DB2 UDB Data Warehouse DBA):
* 5 years of experience (minimum) as a database administrator with DB2 UDB Data Warehouse Enterprise Edition within an AIX operating environment.
* Provide primary DBA design and support services for establishing, upgrading and maintaining the DB2 UDB Data Warehouse environments.
* Implement backup and recovery procedures for DB2 UDB Data Warehouse databases and test regularly in conjunction with Operations.
* Create, maintain and refresh required DB2 UDB Data Warehouse instances/databases for development, test and production environments.
* Monitor security breaches, error log(s), database and log space, user activity and resource utilization of production environment. Work with application programmers to insure that application problems do not adversely affect production operations.
* Monitor system resources of database servers to assure production systems meet performance & availability requirements and hardware enhancements are scheduled in a timely fashion.
* Provide after hours on-call support for critical database issues.
Provide expert assistance in database and SQL statement tuning to improve performance. This includes, but is not limited to, re-writing SQL statements, creating new indexes and altering existing indexes.
Using scripts, monitor performance, space, DB2 UDB Data Warehouse database parameters and tune as required.
Monitor disk usage; plan acquisition and replacement of disk devices as needed.
Act as project liaison and coordinate with AIX system administrators for application of OS patches and maintenance required for database servers.
Understand and maintain documentation of dependencies between versions of application vendor software, DB2 UDB Data Warehouse software, and AIX Operating System.
Provide DBA training and support for other DBAs.
DB2 UDB database administration on servers for mission critical applications.
Communicate and collaborate effectively with staff of varying technical expertise.
