Senior Network Architect

Job Description

The Senior Network Architect's role is to contribute the highest level of expertise for the development, specification and communication of the network technology architecture plan, the infrastructure components required to support it, and in the integration of the above into the corporate and business area architectures.



In addition, the Senior Network Architect will oversee the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links and be responsible for the development of innovative and effective network solutions for the most diverse and most complex business problems. This includes oversight for all Systems Engineering - Network Communications projects for data communications initiatives, re-engineering existing networks, planning technology roadmaps, and configuring and optimizing all network communication deployments and device configurations and services, both internally and those integrated with external client services.



This individual will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide training where required to team members.





Technical background

Cisco CCNP, Juniper JNTCP(or equivalent cert) or above certification
Minimum 10 years experience working in a dynamic environment supporting business goals and strategies
Minimum 8 years experience in senior network administration and/or network architecture, including involvement in network architecture design, project management, and capacity and performance management.
Extensive experience in numerous areas of networking, including local and wide area networks (Any of the following: ATM, DSL, FDDI, Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Frame Relay, ISDN, Private Line, MPLS, IP enabled frame, Cisco Ether Channel, SDLC, DLSW, STUN, 802.1Q VLANs, IPT, Cisco AVVID, VoIP).
Knowledge of network engagement methodologies
Network and Systems Management knowledge
Able to dynamically multi-task across numerous issues and departments in a high pressure environment.
Network engineering/operations

Experience with complex IP network engineering/operations experience
Experience with enterprise/network management systems (NetqOS, What's Up Gold, SolarWinds, Fluke OptiView and SuperAgent, OmniPeek Wired)
Designed, implemented and operated networks using Cisco products
Layer 2 (Ethernet, and frame-relay) network design/operations
Extensive BGP, OSPF, EIGRP routing protocol design and operations
Development and enhancement of SNMP software and statistics software

Responsibilities

Design, architect, and upgrade large complex enterprise infrastructures and / or service provider infrastructures
Leverage both proven and innovative technology approaches to solve challenging business problems
Demonstrate strong team leadership, focus on results, enabling businesses to operate more effectively, and provide support, assessments, written documentation and technical leadership
Coordinate strategies for defining, deploying, and maintaining the company's in-house data communications architecture and its associated network connections and component hardware.
Design and deploy company LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including servers, routers, hubs, switches, UPSs, and other hardware.
Configure networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
Monitor network performance, test network performance capacity, and provide network performance statistics and reports, and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.
Collaborate with various levels of management and department leaders to assess near- and long-term network capacity needs.
Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records.
Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery.
Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry.
Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
Participate in managing all network security solutions.
Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team.
Acts as principal designer for data communications architectures including integration of applications, data, and other infrastructure architectures.
Oversees deployment plans and after action deployment verification for all data communications projects.
Provides integrated systems planning and recommends new or different technologies which will enhance current systems and support overall corporate and business goals.
Researches and evaluates new and/or alternative solutions and technologies to enhance operational effectiveness and reduce costs.
Recommends the appropriate platforms, components and communication linkage required to support distributed and client server business processes and information flows.
Provides in-depth technical consultation and business case explanation IT executive management, and clients when needed, to ensure appropriate understanding and development of efficient network established standards, procedures, methodologies, and best practices.
Manages data communication vendor relationships to maintain state of the art knowledge in emerging technologies and to develop image as a leading corporation utilizing the latest thinking in technology.
Expert knowledge of design and implementation of enterprise workflow systems, network/data communications architecture, intranet/internet architecture, and telecommunication architectures
Senior level understanding of client area's functions and systems
Job Requirements

Formal Education & Certification

Bachelor of Science degree in the field of Computer Science or related discipline is desired or comparable experience
Cisco CCNP, Juniper JNTCP(or equivalent cert) or above certification
Some previous project leadership experience is desirable.
CBP or DHS Client Active Clearance is preferred
