The candidate must have the ability to meet tight deadlines and troubleshoot if necessary, communicate effectively, and be detail-oriented. Duties include:
- Working with developers and end-users to improve their ability to utilize system capabilities,
determine problems and develop appropriate solutions to those problems.
- Troubleshooting SQLAgent jobs and verifying daily backups.
- Developing policies and procedures as they relate to database maintenance, security and
archiving.
- Performing installations and upgrades to SQL Server instances, clients and application
development.
- Allocating system storage and planning future storage requirements for all database
systems.
- Developing and maintaining SSIS packages.
- Assisting development staff with the debugging and optimization of SQL queries and stored
procedures.
- Maintaining SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
- Participating in the application design phases of new and existing applications from a
database and database server perspective.
- Controlling and monitoring user access to databases and participating in the creation and
maintenance of security policies and procedures as they apply.
- Monitoring and optimizing database performance planning, executing and validating backup
and recovery of databases.
- Participating in overall system design and implementation, including 3rd party/vendor
systems.
- Working with T-SQL, stored procedures, triggers, performance tuning, optimization,
replication, DTS/SSIS, disaster recovery and backup.
- Resolving highly complex technical issues, conducting advanced research, and identifying
product/service innovations.
- Managing multiple SQL Server instances across various networks within various
configurations.
- Performing SQL Server diagnostics via Operating System and SQL Server performance
counters
- Diagnosing low-level SQL Server bottlenecks by using SQL Profiler, interrogating internal
system tables and using various other utilities.
