Director of Software Development

Job Summary

The focus of this position is to develop services, process, and data access layers for J2EE based Business Support System (BSS). The BSS allows for sales and ordering of product and services in a Call Center environment. Manage full life-cycle development of n-tiered enterprise applications (services, UI, process/data access functionality) in a service-oriented architecture (SOA) set-up. Responsible for managing design and development of enterprise Web applications. The position will lead a number of Development Managers, who manage Team Leaders and Developers. The candidate must demonstrate progressive leadership style, ability to motivate and build high-performance team, and ability to conceptualize and execute innovative solution in an Information Technology environment.

Major Duties

• Manage full life-cycle development of enterprise applications using Agile methodology.
• Develop Enterprise Service SOA based services, process, and data access layers.
• Develop User Interfaces (UI) especially Java based UI using struts and JSPs.
• Develop prototype and architecture for new concepts and technology that would eventually be used by the Development teams.
• Research and propose state-of-the-art next generation Software Development Techniques to improve productivity and efficiencies of the Development teams.
• Design and Architect cutting-edge distributed systems.
• Provide technical guidance to Managers, Project Managers, and Developers.
• Manage all the deliverables using Project Management techniques including planning, estimating, tracking and oversight, quality management, risk management, and communication management.
• Use BEA Technical Stack to develop application and services. Integrate the systems and applications using client/servers, .Net, and legacy environment.
• Recruit, build, and nurture high performance team.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field.

Skills and Experience

• 15+ yrs experience in Software Design and Development, with 8+ yrs. experience in a supervisory role.
• 5+ years experience as a Software Development Manager. Experience managing managers and project managers a plus.
• 8+ Experience leading development teams of 10-20 developers.
• 8+ years experience developing integrating distributed Applications including J2EE, .Net, and Client/Server Applications.
• 5+ years full life-cycle development in an enterprise development environment in Fortune 500 organization
• 5+ Experience in a Telecom, or Media company in the BSS environment.
• Experience in building effective Development teams.
• Experience in creating technical Business Cases related to Systems Development.
• Understanding of high-volume transaction based systems such as in a call-center environment
• Should have excellent communication, negotiation, decision making, and problem solving skills.
• Must be a team player.
• Must have “can do” /”will do” attitude.
