This position will report directly to the VP or R&D and will participate in the development of new technologies, new products and new indications across Synovis Global business divisions. Qualified candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation and oversight of non-clinical studies to meet regulatory requiremens for approval and sale of tissue and polymer-based medical devices. Will serve on and/or lead product development teams and must ensure success of projects through effective interactions with scientists, CROs and project managers. Will be expected to have a high level of scientific knowledge and the ability to work independently in areas of interest to the company. Will serve as a key resource to other functions (Sales/Marketing/Regulatory) on technical issues related to product development. Expected to manage the activities of individuals and projects in the Research and Development Department on an on-going basis. Responsibilities: Experience in the non-clinical development of biological products, particularly the design and execution of animal studies, is required along with strong organizational skills as well as excellent verbal and written communications skills. Experience in project management and an understanding of the regulatory approval process are also required. Qualifications: Ph. D. in a Life Science discipline (Biology, Biochemistry, Pathology, etc). M.S. with relevant experience may be considered. A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in the medical device industry is required. Strong preference will be given to candidates with experience in the development of implantable devices and or tissue-based devices. Prior experience supervising technical staff is required. An understand of and experience in the regulatory approval process is beneficial. A firm understanding of project management principles is required. Other required skills include; the ability to successfully interface with other departments, good communication skills, ability to successfully conduct personal research programs while coordinating departmental activities, ability to review technical data and assess for clarity and accuracy, ability to motivate subordinates into working at their maximum potential. Attention to detail and accuracy are a must.
