POSITION SUMMARY:

Provide industrial engineering support to Operations Group.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

* Develop and maintain layout of manufacturing areas. Study processes to ensure efficient flow patterns through manufacturing areas.
* Develop, maintain and control production documentation including Process Maps, Manufacturing Instructions, and Traceability Records.
* Set up manufacturing work stations to maximize available space, promote efficient line flow, minimize product defects, and maximize operator comfort.
* Analyze manufacturing operations to ensure balanced line flow and appropriate staffing and equipment.
* Interface with Design and Manufacturing Engineers to provide timely feedback on proposed design and process changes as it relates to the production line and production documentation.
* Assist Operations Supervisors and Group Leaders in the implementation of Just in Time and Lean Manufacturing principles in manufacturing areas.
* Assist Supplier Development Group in implementation of Just in Time and Lean Manufacturing principles at key suppliers.
* Implement and maintain ERP system in manufacturing areas.
* Monitor safety of manufacturing areas and implement improvements as needed. Serve as an Operations representative to the corporate safety committee.
* Interface with Design Engineers to provide timely feedback on proposed designs and influence organization to develop a strong design for manufacturability culture.
* Properly document activities in accordance with best engineering practices, company procedures, and regulatory requirements.
* Effectively train assemblers, technicians, and engineers on principles of Continuous Flow and Lean Manufacturing and its practical implementation on the production floor.
* Develop, maintain and improve key business and quality system processes as required.


POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

* Bachelor of science degree in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering, and 3 years of experience in medical or other high-reliability manufacturing environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Experience with planning and executing production line layout projects.
* Experience with implementation and maintenance of ERP systems.
* Experience with Statistical Process Control, Just in Time, and Lean Manufacturing techniques.
* Knowledge of OSHA workplace safety requirements.
* PC computer proficiency with MS Office. Experience with software tools that aid in developing facility layouts, simulating line flow, evaluating line efficiency, and managing complex projects.
* Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to develop assembly processes for medical devices. Capability to use equipment such as microscopes, soldering irons, mechanical and electrical assembly tooling and fixtures, adhesive dispensers, tweezers, crimpers, cutters and hand tools. Some lifting to 30 pounds.
* Capability to work in a clean room environment and wear appropriate gowns, hair nets, and gloves.
* Excellent technical writing skills and the ability to take design requirements and translate into clear and logical instructions.
