We are seeking a Systems Administrator who will work under limited supervision, administering all aspects of an advanced, distributed computer system supporting an important functional area of Synacor operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Performs system and application analysis/design and programming to produce a variety of innovative solutions to complex problems
• Monitor ticket tracking system for open or newly assigned tasks
• Prioritize tasks and manage competing demands on time
• Monitor systems health via Zenoss and spong
• Troubleshoot system and network problems with limited or no supervision
• Handle routine Systems requests such as adding new users
• Proficient in scripting or light programming
• Initiate some new responsibilities and help plan for the future of the site/network
• Some on-call duties required
• Able to support a 24x7x365 staffing model which includes weekends and holidays
• Other duties as assigned

What you'll need to bring to the table:
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field preferred
• 5+ years of Linux/Unix System Administration experience
• RHCE, LPI, CCNA, MySQL and other related certifications a plus
• Comfortable with most aspects of operating system administration; for example, configuration of mail systems, system installation and configuration, fundamentals of security, installing third-party software
• Independent problem-solving skills, self-direction
• Ability to solve hardware and software problems using own research and initiative
• Familiarity with fundamental networking/distributed computing environment concepts; can configure NFS, key-based ssh; can use nslookup or dig to check information in DNS; understands basic routing concepts
• Has a solid understanding of a UNIX-based operating system; understands paging and swapping, inter-process communication, devices and what device drivers do, filesystem concepts (inode, clustering, logical partitions)
• Generally knowledge of several programming languages used for scripting or automation of routine tasks (bash, Perl, PHP)
• Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects and bring them to thorough and successful completion
• Ability to communicate clearly in verbal and written form
• Specific experience with Solaris, Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP, Perl, RT, and postfix a plus
