Linux Systems Administrator Job Posting

The Senior Linux Systems Administrator/Architect will take the lead in the system design and evolution of Vignette's new video delivery services. The architecture will be manageable, standardized, scalable, reliable and responsive. This 24/7 environment runs in a high density, fault-tolerant hosted data center environment as well as the corporate headquarters data center. Additional responsibilities may include providing infrastructure services (DNS, NIS, FTP, and NFS) and support to internal application owners.

Responsibilities:

• Working very closely with IT, Engineering, QA, and Customer Care to ensure that their systems are well designed, tested, and maintainable.
• Writing and maintaining scripts for automation as well as monitoring and troubleshooting in order to resolve issues within the systems and applications. Installation and configuration of Unix servers and networking components in production, QA and development environments.
• Documentation of systems issues and 24/7 emergency support. Mentoring junior systems administrators and work closely to help diagnose support incidents.

Requirements:

• Specialization in Linux systems administration, with a strong preference for Redhat or Fedora Linux and Sun Solaris. Experience with SuSE Linux, AIX, and HP-UX is a plus.
• Extensive experience supporting web applications using Apache, Tomcat, and MySQL. Experience supporting Sun iPlanet web server, Weblogic application server and Oracle databases is a plus.
• It's critical that you're accustomed to deploying and supporting servers in a 7/24 production environment and you have experience supporting SAN or NAS technologies, specifically Network Appliance products.
• Familiarity with a hosted data center environment.
• Fluency in various scripting languages (Perl, Python, shell, and/or PHP).
• Exposure to Virtualization technologies and implementation (VMWare ESX, Solaris Zones/LDOMs, AIX LPARs/WPARs) is a plus.
• Extremely comfortable building and tuning Linux systems and kernels.
• Strong knowledge of networking protocols and configurations, routing, firewall configurations, Cisco and Apache load-balancing.
• Flexible and adaptable, the ideal candidate should be able to switch gears in various high-stress situations and apply themselves to quickly learning new technologies and adopting new methodologies.
• Customer focus and a strong commitment to product quality are important. Candidate will advocate the product and the customers' needs and will implement a model of continuous improvement.
