Position Overview:

We are looking for a seasoned software professional to fill a brand new position as the Lead Software Developer at Sportstown.com. Our initial development was done by a 3rd party and we are now bringing this key role in-house. You will take charge of and own back-end web development activities and the implementation of highly complex internet and intranet applications on one or more diverse platforms. Our candidate will use advanced knowledge of web technologies, database modeling tools and database interactions to maximize user experience as well as business performance.

Responsibilities:

• Lead, design and implement back-end web development technologies for our e-commerce platform
• Evaluate system specifications and requirements, lead design presentations, influence direction and implement the most efficient and cost-effective software/package solutions
• Perform web based application development, tuning and module design
• Training and mentoring new programmers, system/application design and architecture, project scope development, technical management
• Work closely with key business partners to ensure technology meets the business model and needs

Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience with Object-Oriented design patterns and development, 2+ of which should be around distributed, web-based application development
• Full product lifecycle experience
• Experience reading and writing software design documentation (knowledge of UML, Rational Rose, etc.)
• Proficiency with Java -- at least 2 years of core, back-end Java development experience
• Exposure to frameworks such as Spring, Hibernate, JDBC, Spring WebFlow, DWR, JQuery, Prototype, etc.
• Cross-platform development experience a big plus (Windows, Linux, Unix, Mac OS)
• Database architecture and data modeling experience is a plus
• Agile software development experience
• Experience with e-commerce or other web-based order processing systems a plus
• Strong work ethic and willingness to take ownership for wide-ranging responsibilities
• 4 year Computer Science or related degree is required
