Digital Library Technologies (DLT), a unit of Information Technology Services (ITS), is responsible for providing the enterprise computer environment for the University Libraries at Penn State, as well as collaborative services within the University. We are currently seeking a UNIX Systems Administrator/Storage Administrator. Reporting to the Director of Digital Library Infrastructure, the job will analyze existing systems and will work closely with a team of systems administrators and software developers in the design of new platforms. This job will be filled at the appropriate level, depending upon the successful candidate's education and experience. Minimum educational and work-related experience requirements are: Associate's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The ability to create project plans, document procedures and maintain records is required. Candidate must demonstrate a strong knowledge of UNIX/Linux operating systems with an emphasis on SUN Solaris 9 and 10. The ability to work cross platform with existing operating systems such as Red Hat Linux and Microsoft Windows XP/2003 is also required. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and demonstrate superior customer service skills, as well as the ability to maintain tangible relationships with vendors and field service engineers. A strong knowledge of Storage Area Network (SAN) technology, RAID, Enterprise Backup Technology, TCP/IP network hardware and the Penn State Integrated Backbone are highly desirable.
