The Software Engineering Manager plays a crucial role in the development of companies web properties. As a seasoned software engineer and architect, s/he helps the marketing team to define their software requirements, ensures that projects are built the right way, and participates in the actual day-to-day development of the public-facing web site, spanning student community, merchandising and live events.
As the manager of a small team of expert programmers in a fun and fast-paced environment, the Software Engineering Manager provides mentoring and development opportunities to the team, and works with the Chief Marketing Officer to project manage, prioritize and divide software development workload among team members. Projects range from large-scale social application development to the pursuit of perfection in end-user experience. The Software Engineering Manager works in a diverse integrated environment of best-of-breed open source technology, including Linux, PostgreSQL, Ruby on Rails, OpenACS and Object Oriented PHP, and along with his/her team, defines and adheres to best practices to enable maximum business logic flexibility, robustness and code reuse.
Experience:
Qualifications:
-At least 5 years experience in developing web applications using open source tools.
-BS in information technology, computer science or a related field.
-Expertise with UNIX shells and editors, version control (CVS and Subversion), server-side languages (Perl, PHP, Tcl, Ruby), relational databases (PostgreSQL), and hosting configurations (Apache, AOLServer, Mongrel).
-Very strong data modeling and query skills.
-Extensive experience architecting and implementing object-oriented software, as well as large-scale non-OO applications.
-Ability to combine a deep understanding of business needs and engineering best practices.
-Superior verbal and written communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain high levels of creativity and quality.
-Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines, prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously with great efficiency and attention to detail.
-Familiarity with today's music styles, leading musical figures and the basic structure and organization of the music products and online music industry. Ability to handle confidential matters with integrity and complete confidentiality.
