The Position: Senior Java Developer, Shared Trading Services Group
Location: Austin, TX

Client plays an important role as an international, multi-currency execution, clearing and custody organization for broker/dealers trading in securities and derivatives. Client is a member of the Chicago Stock Exchange, National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc., Chicago Board of Options Exchange, OneChicago, ARCA exchange, International Securities Exchange, Options Clearing Corporation and SIPC. Client and its subsidiaries provide market-leading solutions in Clearing, Settlement, Real-time Trading Platforms, Real-time Market Data and News, Registered Investment Advisor platforms, Prime Brokerage Services, Custodial Services.
Client also provides Global Electronic (FIX) Exchange and ECN Direct-Market-Access Connectivity, Execution Services, and Private Wealth Management Tools to other financial institutions, hedge funds, securities professionals and investors. Client Worldwide is a publically traded company. (PNSN)
The Group:
The Shared Trading Services group (STS) provides the technology infrastructure for all trading activities of Client including hardware and software. STS is the consolidated center of all market feed and execution sources utilized by Client. STS provides and maintains a normalized market feed to different business units. STS is also the only execution venue for all internal business units where Order flow is controlled through the execution FIX gateways maintained by STS. STS is responsible for adding, certifying new FIX connections.
STS resources are utilized by other business units within Client. Therefore, an STS developer will have exposure to development tasks initiated by different business units.
The Opportunity:
• Participate in both the design and implementation of a high frequency/low latency execution infrastructure.
• Deliver together with the rest of the STS group a unique execution services platform.
The Candidate:
• The successful candidate will have earned a BS or MS in engineering, applied mathematics, science, operations research, or computer science from a top university or equivalent work experience. Specific experience requirements include: Seven-plus years of programming; three-plus years of professional experience in object oriented development.
• Essential technical skills include mastery of many of the following:
§ complex multi-threaded applications
§ Java performance tuning
§ database programming (JDBC, MySQL)
§ network programming (sockets, NIO, RMI)
§ financial information exchange protocol (FIX)
§ numerical methods / scientific programming
§ object/relational mappers (Hibernate)
§ development of APIs, OO design
§ Extensive J2SE knowledge
§ Worked with JMX
§ No J2EE/EJB experience required
§ scripting languages (Perl, BASH)
§ XML, ANT, Spring FrameWork, Maven
§ agile development methods
§ multi-platform development
§ enterprise messaging systems (JMS, or similar)
§ financial trading applications
§ 5+ years systems development experience in Java
§ Experience with Electronic trading, client connectivity, trading interface design, and message format
§ Knowledge of software development methodologies and experience with automated testing tools (JUnit)
§ Aptitude for technical troubleshooting and proven ability to support mission critical applications
§ Detail-oriented and ability to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment
§ Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Other critical skills in this role include the ability to think critically in a demanding environment, the ability to provide thought leadership, and the ability to work independently without detailed direction (identify opportunities, define own priorities and deliver high quality work product). The successful candidate will possess the ability to work with others and influence others by building credibility with other groups and organizations, both internal and external to Client.
