A leading provider of geographic search and referencing software is seeking an experienced, skilled and enthusiastic Linux System Administrator to join our Operations team in Cambridge, MA. The successful candidate will be involved in designing and operating both public and hosted solutions using our core geographic search platform.
Linux System Administrator
Responsibilities:
• Help plan, design and maintain high availability systems primarily on our Linux based Appliance Platform.
• Build and maintain tools and infrastructure to improve ease of deployment through automation of tasks.
• Build and maintain tools to monitor infrastructure and services.
• Build and maintain tools to track infrastructure, services and their customers.
• Work with customers both internal and external to build, maintain and repair services.
• Collaborate with other team members to improve the reliability and scalability of our solutions.
• Help build and maintain tools for efficient use of content acquisition systems.
• Be part of a rotating on call schedule.
• Keep up to date with and ready to repair all service offerings from end to end.
• Respond carefully, but rapidly to problems. Collecting as much data as possible while maintaining uptime.
• Communicate technical requirements and issues to business, support and engineering staff.
Qualifications:
• Strong Computer Science or Engineering background.
• 5+ years experience as Linux/Unix/Network Administrator.
• Solid programming skills in a variety of languages and environments (Python a big plus).
• Strong knowledge of Web Application architectures.
• Self sufficient learning skills.
• Effective communication of technical information, both written and oral.
• Able to manage multiple time-sensitive initiatives and competing priorities.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment in a highly organized manner.
• Strong analytical capabilities.
• Resourceful and able to come up with creative solutions.
• Knowledge of Debian, SSL, Nagios, Kerberos, AFS, BGP, LinuxHA, all pluses.
