Job Description
Sr. Linux/Network System Administrator
The Sr. Linux/Network System administrator provides operational support and performance monitoring of proprietary customer-facing web application and company-facing application environments. Responsibilities include maintaining performance, availability, security and providing technical leadership for upgrades, installations, monitoring, backups and disaster recovery. Experience with high volume customer facing web site environments a big plus. Experience with Ruby on Rails/MySQL environments also a plus.
Responsibilities
• Responsible for the reliability, performance, recoverability and security of Linux server and storage hardware, operating systems, and various middleware software products.
• Install, configure, administer, and maintain hardware and software enhancements for the server and storage management environment
• Provide recommendations on infrastructure improvements to improve system performance, availability and security.
• Participate on projects and assignments with minimal supervision
• Assist in management of IP network.
• Manage load balancers, core network services (DNS, LDAP, SMTP etc.)
• Provide backup to MySQL DBA.
• Support monitoring, backup tools
• Develop disaster recovery plans for servers.
• Serve in on-call rotation
• Performs other duties as assigned
Required Skills
• 5 years Linux experience, significant experience with RHEL, Fedora and CentOS.
• Experience with Cisco IOS and management of small production networks a plus.
• Experience providing technical leadership and knowledge transfer to other system administrators
• Independent problem-solving, self-direction.
• Ability to write scripts in some administrative language ( Perl, VBScript, a shell ).
• Prior experience configuring munin, Nagios monitoring tools
• Prior experience configuring NFS, RAID arrays, networked storage, backup systems
• Prior experience managing web-facing production environments including load balancers, mail gateways, DNS servers, SMTP services, Apache web servers.
• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
• Strong technical troubleshooting skills.
Required Background
• Five years of system administration experience.
Desirable Background and Skills
• One to three years cisco networking experience ( switches, routers, firewalls )
Experience with Ruby on Rails and any of the web service plug-ins (Passenger, mongrel, ngnix, etc
