POSITION:
Linux System Administrator (Redhat)
REPORTS TO: Director, IT
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & MEASURES:
Linux Administration 70%
•
Application installation such as Tomcat, Apache, and proprietary software
• Daily operational support such as troubleshooting production issues, and internal systems.
• Provide assistance to Internal Systems in maintaining windows servers
• Heavily involved with fine tuning hosting environment systems.
• Will be on a rotational on-call rota with some weekend work

Support systems in both production and development environments.
• Coordinate daily with colleagues in the data dept and provide daily reporting to management.
• Automate and script system administration tasks; assist in streamlining processes; and perform standard administration functions as needed.
• Monitor and report on system health and performance daily.
• Monitor system performance and make recommendations to improve and implement system wide changes to enhance overall system.
• Create and implement test plans for validating system changes prior to deployment.
• Provide expert level knowledge and support for management of file systems / disk volumes and clustering.
• Interface with IT security team for the deployment of security protocols to prevent, detect, and respond to internal and external security threats.
• Stay abreast of new developments in the field and be a technical lead and resource to other team members.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS/TRAITS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
5 -7 years relevant experience:
• Installation, setup, and configuration of RedHat ES 4/5, SUSE 10, FC 6/7/8
• Apache and Tomcat integration using mod_jk (Tomcat Connector)
• Advanced knowledge of Apache configuration including named virtual hosts, SSL configuration, mod_rewrite, php support etc.
• Advanced knowledge of Tomcat configurations including Java Naming and Directory Interface, Tomcat Loadbalancing, jTDS etc.
• Experience with JBoss and websphere.
• CL Scripting
• LDAP, SAMBA, Active Directory integration between Linux/Windows
• Account/user management on Linux Systems.
• Logfile management including experience with enterprise metrics/analytics solutions.
• Linux system patch management, security, monitoring, system performance tuning etc.
• Experience compiling binaries. (ANT, GCC, Configure etc)
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP protocol, SNMP, DHCP
• Extensive experience with BIND 9 (advanced zone file configurations etc)
• Knowledge of remote management solutions and options.
Nice to haves...
• Experience with CISCO PIX, Local Directors, and Cisco Layer 3 switches
• Expertise installing, configuring/tuning Oracle 9 and 10, and MySQL 4/5 on Linux
• Experience installing, configuring and managing email systems.
