Position: SQL Database Administrator
The Role:
The SQL Database Administrator will report directly to the VP, Information Technology and will be responsible for designing, implementing and operating MS SQL and mySQL databases. The ideal candidate will be able to work with minimal supervision, communicate with key stakeholders to understand requirements and have the ability to set future direction of database systems.
Responsibilities:
• Perform DB performance monitoring
• Provide DBA support in a production environment to minimize system down time and ensure system availability in accordance with business requirements
• Work with Project Managers to determine needs, set priorities, create project plans and determine schedules
• Perform necessary check on integrity of databases according to plan and course correct as required
• Monitor systems to identify and address problems before they become critical
• Manage back-up and recovery systems and processes
• Coordinate resources among projects and optimize the resource utilization
• Set procedural standards for how people use the database and manage role based security
• Upgrade, fix, and migrate to new versions of software and hardware platforms
Education, Experience and Qualifications:
• BA or BS in Computer Science and Information Sciences or equivalent work experience
• MCDBA designation an asset
• Minimum 3 years experience with MS SQL server installation, configuration and management
• Minimum 3 years experience with MySQL server installation, configuration and management
• Minimum 3 years experience in Windows 2003 and Linux environment and DBA support for multiple, complex applications
• Experience supporting 24/7 environments
• Experience working in a web hosting/application support role
• Experience in dealing with large production servers, preferably in e-commerce domain
• Proven ability to thrive in a fast paced results driven environment, multi-tasking
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and innate desire to evaluate and problem solve key issues
• Excellent communication skills -- oral, written, and interpersonal
