RESPONSIBILITIES
· Manage a team supporting the ongoing, 7x24 database systems, including maintaining system availability, improving performance, and assisting in change and new system design and deployment
· Support a global environment with other DBA teams across the globe
· Formulate team and individual performance objectives that meet with the division's long term strategic objectives and the goals of the organization
· Create and execute on employee engagement and retention plans
· Create and maintain capital and operational expense budgets for the team
· Lead a database team to increase their database skills and competencies
· Participate and perform vendor management
· Manage and maintain the organization's operations plan for database infrastructure working closely with the Unix team
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
· Leadership and management skills
· Technical aptitude and business acumen with a consultative approach to solution selling
· Entrepreneur spirit with strong planning and project execution skills
· Demonstrated ability to proactively build and manage relationships
· Ability to coach and lead database teams in a collaborative approach
· Exceptional presentation skills and the ability to handle large audiences are a must
· Strong communicator (Oral, Verbal, and Written) with ability to persuade individuals and groups
· Excellent technical skills with strong analytical and diagnostics background
· 10 to 15+ years experience as a technology consultant in the database area
· 10 to 15+ years experience working in large Enterprise IT Organizations (eg. Infrastructure, Operations Support and Administration, Database Production Support )
· Strong organization and time management skills
· Ability to draw on technical skills based on experience and the team to resolve tactical issues and align strategic enterprise needs
· Ability to use metric in an operation environment to suggest and implement continuous improvement
· Act as a coach and mentor for the database services team globally
· Ability to thrive in a challenging and high pressure environment
· Quick learner and a high energy to drive results
· Bachelor Degree in IT/Software/MIS is minimum education requirement
TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS
Solid knowledge of IT infrastructure, including background in the following:
· Technical architecture of IT solutions
· HP-UX server management including Superdome (PA-RISC & Itanium)
· Oracle databases 9i to 11g , data guard and RAC
· Technical understanding of HA solution
· Technical understanding of Disaster Recovery solution
· Technical understanding of database backup and recovery requirement
· Sound knowledge in an operation conference bridge setting performing trouble shooting
· Proficient enough to recommend database tools for monitoring, trending, capacity planning and proactive management
· Ability to juggle multiple priorities
· Superb presentation skills to senior management
· self motivated and ability to work independently with minimum guidance
ADDITIONAL ASSETS
· Linux hosting Oracle databases
· High performing database systems
· Working knowledge with Enterprise Storage subsystems (Hitachi, HP, EMC, NetApp)
· Certification in Oracle would be an asset
