Job Description
Simulcast Technical Operations Center Engineers are responsible for operations of the Simulcast technology infrastructure. Simulcast is the primary online transaction platform for Manheim for customers to participate in up to several hundreds of sale events each day with audio, video and live bidding being key application features. Simulcast engineers are responsible for the design, deployment, management and daily operations of the technology infrastructure that incorporates over 700 servers, 90+ locations and a complex WAN network.
Responsibilities
Simulcast engineers administer IP based networks and Linux based systems located at corporate headquarters and offsite auction facilities. Simulcast engineers resolve operational issues through support tickets and alerts from network and system monitoring tools. They are also tasked with driving and implementing operational improvements through process optimization, automation and judicious use of technology. Technology architecture strength and operational rigor are capabilities needed to successfully execute this position.
Skills, experience and requirements for the Technical Operations Engineer position include the following:
· Experience in managing, configuring and deploying Cisco routers and switches. Representative model types include 6500s, 7600s, 7500s, 2950s, 3550s and 3750s. Experience architecting and implementing EIGRP and QOS a significant plus. Strong understanding of typical internet protocols: TCP, IP, UDP, ICMP, etc. Most engineers typically need 5+ years of experience to reach the level of skills this position requires.
· Experience with monitoring tools such SolarWinds, Cacti, BMC Patrol or NetScout a plus.
· Work with telecom and network providers on circuit installation and problem resolution.
· Deep experience and skills in managing large numbers of Unix/Linux systems. Scripting/automation skills an absolute must. Typical duties include: new server and upgrades including OS install, raid configuration, and NIC configurations. Most engineers typically need 5+ years of experience to reach the level of skills this position requires. System administration experience in a large structured environment a plus.
· Experience managing web systems such as Tomcat, Apache and load balancers (F5 BigIP experience a significant plus).
· Ensure all issues regarding system or network automated alerts are logged, tracked, and resolved. Manage alerts and events through the trouble ticket tool.
· Coordinate activities with field support operations.
· Work successfully in transitioning systems and infrastructure from in-house management to 3rd party providers.
· Communicate changes, outages and updates with appropriate contact lists.
· Produce and update written process and network documentation. Must be able to develop and document technology implementation plans in a clear manner that can be understood by both engineers and technology management staff.
· Light lifting. 50 lbs Max
· Audio/Video experience over the internet a significant plus.
· Self manage to project dates and milestones.
Travel: Less than 20%.
