Exciting startup on Long Island has an amazing opportunity for a very smart, talented, user-centric web developer. We require applicants to have at least 7 years professional experience and be able to demonstrate that you are an expert in PHP, MySQL, AJAX, CSS, XHTML, and DHTML. If you do not meet these minimum requirements, we're unable to consider you for this position.
We're seeking to hire a Lead Developer to architect, build, and manage the front-end and back-end systems of the company. We need someone who is very "hands-on" that can jump right in and be productive immediately.
We're looking for someone with significant technical expertise that can make strategic decisions about use of platforms, methodologies, and technologies and has the judgment to make thoughtful decisions that balance user experience, cost, and development challenges. Ideal candidates will have gone through the growth and scalability issues of a startup company already. As the company becomes successful and your team grows, your role will evolve accordingly. A successful career path will lead to becoming VP of Engineering or Chief Technology Officer.
You need be able to work autonomously and provide your own direction. Your goals will be clear, but how you achieve them is up to you. Your hand will not be held and you will not be micromanaged. We give you the freedom you need to thrive, but we expect you to be on point and perform.
What you'll do:
As the Lead Developer, you will be responsible all aspects of web and back-end system development. In the early stages of the company, you will be the only member of the development team and will need to spend most of your time coding. As the company expands, this position will evolve to focus on building a team and managing product development and releases.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
Coding - we have designed a highly intuitive and professional user interface for our service. You will bring this to life with a powerful back-end to support it.?
Database and server configuration and administration?
Developing and maintaining the company's technology vision and strategy?
Define development environment, processes & systems?
Establish technical standards and "good habits" early on to ensure coding practices remain consistent as time goes on?
Build/buy, customize, and maintain the CMS platform for the delivery of all online content?
Lead project management and make buy/build and insource/outsource decisions for fast, efficient web development?
Provide technical guidance during planning and development - you are the technical expert of the company.?
Anything and everything else - this is a startup, things change at a moments notice and we expect you'll be able to adapt quickly.
Required Skills & Experience:
-Demonstrated mastery of PHP, XHTML, CSS, JS, AJAX, jQuery, SQL databases, web servers and performance optimization?
-7+ years web development experience with superior web coding skills?
-Experience working with a startup?
-Understanding of OOP and MVC and how to design elegant, portable and reusable modules?
-Agile and TDD experience (helpful, not required)?
-Experience building products for large communities of users (helpful, not required)?
-BS, MS or PhD in Computer Science or related field (helpful, not required)
