Responsible for managing telecommunications projects University-wide, including design, procurement, and budget and schedule responsibilities. Reports to the Director of Special Projects within Telecommunications and Network Services, a unit of Information Technology Services. Consult with both internal and external architectural and engineering professionals for telecommunications project development, design and construction. Supervise contractors and professional firms during the construction phase and follow through to insure that codes and standards are met. Design major telecommunications systems for all campuses using state-of-the-art technology as it applies to the University. Compile cost estimates and work with OPP, campuses, colleges and departments in the project budget preparation; determine if projects can be completed by internal resources or take it to bid for external resources. Prepare all necessary specifications required to bid the project, select a vendor bid list, conduct a pre-bid meeting, review the responses and award a contract to the selected bidder. Supervise, coordinate and monitor the cost of the project through completion. Upon completion and acceptance, authorize payment for labor and materials. Prepare all necessary correspondence, documentation and insure drawings are updated to reflect all change. Coordinate between departments, Budget Office, OPP and outside professional firms on new buildings and major renovations. Review and analyze building, campus and statewide requirements to make the ongoing changes required to keep telecommunications systems state-of-the-art. Coordinate activities both internal and external as the project moves from design to implementation stages during the life of the project. Consult with internal staff on problems determination and resolution. Provide all necessary training to both clients and staff members as required. Collect and review post project documentation and as-built information for entry into data tracking and management systems. Requires Bachelor's degree plus four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Professional Engineer (P.E.) Registration and/or a Registered Communications Distribution Designer (R.C.D.D.) Certificate preferred.
