Job Description:
Reports To: Release Management Supervisor
This hands on software professional is part of a team that manages and maintains the release process for test and production platforms across geographically distributed sites. This person will be responsible for the release tools, systems, and processes to schedule and provide new builds on a daily basis across a number of different products in a Windows, UNIX, and Oracle environment. Person is also responsible for post-release follow up and to ensure successful releases.
Primary Job Duties
- Provide leadership and guidance to team members.
- Work with Release Management Supervisor on process improvement.
- Work closely with development, quality assurance, and engineers to deliver reliable and repeatable builds and releases.
- Write efficient and easy to follow documentation.
- Maintain and enhance the current build environment and processes.
- Manage and maintain the release builds.
- Administer source code repository tools.
- Provide support on an on-call basis as needed.
- Assist in the development of new processes, methodologies, and tools.
- Analyze, recommend corrective actions and/or resolve release failures.
- Validate release delivery success using log files and other tools.
Essential Skills, Qualities and Abilities
- 4 plus years' experience in release engineer role.
- Familiar with ITIL based release practices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with batch files, scripting, SQL, and UNIX command line.
- Previous experience with AIX, Oracle, PERL, Starteam, Eclipse, and MS Visual Studio strongly preferred.
- Highly motivated with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, team oriented production environment.
