We are looking for a looking for professional with strong scripting skills and loves to massage data for a client in Ann Arbor.
Title: Scripting - Tools Specialist
Location: An Arbor, MI
Compensation: Base salary is open, though we are targeting $60-70,000. Client offers solid benefits package. Local candidates strongly preferred.
General: Development of tools requiring a high-level of expertise with scripting (i.e., Unix shell, python, Perl, etc), XML processing, and XSL applications. Working closely with the production team and technical staff to continually improve the tools and processes used in the ingest and maintenance of digitized print journals. Run scripts and long-running batch
jobs to generate datasets in different formats, and distributing these datasets to internal staff and external partners.
Required Skills: A technical bachelors degree with strong scripting skills, i.e. unix shell (csh, bash, etc), perl, python, ruby, etc. High level
proficiency with XML, XML validation, XSL, XQuery, and non-XML structured text. Working knowledge of Relational databases and SQL. Working knowledge of web development practices. Knowledge of image file formats, SGML, PDF, other structured formats for text, metadata, or image data. XML databases.
Pluses: Knowledge of library systems (digitized-print journals) and standards...Dublin Core, OAI PMH, OpenURL, SICI, DOI, and NLM. Scanned page images (TIFF format), OCR (optical character recognition) generated text,
and XML-formatted metadata.
