Specific Job Description
The Responsible Thread Engineer (RTE) reports directly to the Systems Engineering and Architecture Manager and has technical authority over a grouping of source requirements comprising a delivered capability. The RTE is considered the subject matter expert (SME) on the capability. The RTE will ensure continuity of engineering activities between the incremental implementations of portions of the capability and the final, total product view of the end state implementation with the objective of ensuring that source requirement satisfaction objectives are met for each increment and that all requirements are satisfied by completion of the final increment.
The RTE is responsible for overseeing and assisting with all tasks within the full system development lifecycle of the source requirements including:
-Requirements decomposition
-Requirements traceability
-Requirements clarification
-Detailed design support
-Process management
-Customer interaction to refine requirements
-Implementation support
-Test oversight and support
Standard Job Description
Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 9 years of professional experience; or 7 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree. Considered an emerging authority.
