The server team specifies, develops, and maintains highly available systems that manage the distribution and archiving of medical images and patient information throughout the enterprise. The solution provides many services that support various Philips Healthcare Informatics products. These services include; enterprise messaging, image storage and retrieval, disaster recovery, image processing, patient and exam management, workflow services, queuing and scheduling, configuration management, security and auditing. All servers and services are proactively monitored to ensure maximum availability.
Your Responsibilities:
Overview

Server software engineers are responsible for designing, implementing and documenting new server-side product features, writing unit and system tests in an iterative software development environment focused on on-time delivery. Candidates must be inquisitive with strong analytical and problem solving skills.

Required skills include: 5+ years of C++ experience, 2+ year of C# and .NET experience, design patterns and OO Design, excellent communication skills.

Desired skills include: Web Services, ASP.NET, XML, XSLT, SQL, CORBA, ACE, TAO, Multi-Threading, healthcare industry related experience such as DICOM and HL7.

Candidates for this role must have a strong technical foundation and demonstrate sound problem analysis, and problem solving capabilities. They must demonstrate competency in a broad range of technical areas and expertise in a one or two. This role requires the individual to constantly learn and apply new technologies.

Software Engineers must thrive in an environment characterized by its fast pace and its high level of collaboration. In performing the essential functions of this role Software Engineers will find the work-environment is fast-paced, moderately noisy and team-based.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Design
Translate business requirements provided by Product Marketing into a component designs. Utilize OO design principles in creating software components, or modifying and integrating third party libraries and packages. Author the final detailed design of a component. Facilitate and/or communicate simple design conversations with the Product Marketing. Challenge business requirements when necessary by suggesting alternative solutions. Ensure all designs are documented and reviewed. Participate in reviews of peers designs.

Implementation
Write bug free code. Implement the business design. Follow standards set for the team. Identify and fix problem areas in components, review suggested improvements with senior engineers and Product Marketing. Author and execute unit tests for all code written. Ensure all code is reviewed and participate in reviews of peers code.

Sustaining Engineering
Resolve reported field issues. Fix Defects.

Process
Learn, follow, and suggest improvements to the PRP. Utilize the deliverables from other groups and phases of the PRP. Follow project processes. Understand, define and assess completeness of work.

Planning and Monitoring
Participates in a mid-level planning exercise. Plan work schedule. Effectively communicate status against plan. Anticipate issues and risks in assigned tasks and escalate appropriately. Effectively and accurately estimate an individual component. Account for all activities in designing, implementing, testing and documenting the component.


Collaboration
Actively seek advice and mentor other engineers where possible.
Your Profile:
Skills and Qualifications

Degree in Computer Science or related field preferred. 3+ years of experience in software development, systems integration and development, and/or interactive design. Knowledge of multiple technologies, including but not limited to:

C++, C#, .Net, Web Services, Relational Databases (SQL Server preferred), MFC, Microsoft development tools, DICOM, HL7, CORBA, ACE, TAO, XML, HTML, Active X, Win32, Multi-threaded systems, distributed systems, Design Patterns, OO Design.

Ability to define, create and complete a technical task without a great deal of guidance. Ability to be creative and innovative, and work well independently and as a team-player in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication skills.
