POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Senior Software Engineer is a lead member of the software development team that builds and supports new and existing web-based and legacy application projects that address the Society's business requirements for both internal business applications and external e-business initiatives. The Senior Software Engineer is tasked with leading various user groups in joint design sessions and focus groups, understanding and interpreting business processes and requirements, working with the architecture team in transforming those processes and requirements into technical design, guiding software engineering staff on the development detailed programming specifications, using best-practice coding techniques to develop the system components within established frameworks, utilize automated testing tools to quality/performance-test the system, and provide support for systems and components after they have been delivered.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
? Participate, lead, mentor, and assist other software engineers in support of new development and existing bug/enhancement requests of "Mission 360" (the Society's new global system strategy based on an Enterprise Services-Oriented architecture). Position will act as lead engineer in guiding software staff through development and support issues that focus on Mission 360 transactional applications (OLTP), data integration between various internal sub-systems, and 3rd Party Software product integration into the Enterprise SOA including workflow, business intelligence analysis & reporting, messaging, calendaring, etc... Position will work closely with internal software development and architecture team, participate in user joint meetings, and interact with various user groups at Home Office and Chapter level, and provide status and tracking to Society's IT management.
? Participate, lead, mentor, and assist other software engineers in support of new development and existing bug/enhancement requests for the Society's e-Marketing web campaign initiatives. Integration initiatives will focus on providing a new Content Management platform along with advanced features using web services between various 3rd Party web components and the new Mission 360 architecture. Position will work closely with all stakeholders including internal software development, architecture team, and e-Marketing team representatives.
? Work with various technical consultants involved in application development in support of Mission 360 and legacy system projects. Participate in establishing plan for knowledge transfer for support and new development.
? Work with vendors and application service providers supporting remote web services integration initiatives including specifications, development, documentation, and on-going support.
? Perform other duties as assigned.
KEY REQUIREMENTS:
? Experienced software engineer in various web-based development languages and architectures as a lead developer.
? Broad specification, design, software development, systems tuning and usability testing skills.
? Experience leading and working within a highly productive and diverse IT teams.
? Solid skills in understanding, communicating, and working with user constituencies.
? Superior verbal and written communications & presentation abilities.
? Ability to work independently, be a self-starter, manage assignments without supervision and delivery quality software components on-time and within budget.
? Ability to manage and lead other software engineers on various development projects.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
? Three to Five years experience in information technology software system development environment with heavy emphasis on web applications development, frameworks, and relational database management systems.
? Three to Five years experience working with latest web technologies including Java/J2EE, Hibernate, Spring, JSP/ASP, HTML/XML, Javascript, and Adobe flex frameworks.
? Three to Five years working with relational database systems with expert level understanding of SQL/PL-SQL/Transact-SQL for SQLServer and/or Oracle RDBMS.
? Experience working with user groups for developing requirements, specifications, design, programming and usability testing using UML, Use Cases, O/R mapping Tools, Eclipse IDE, JUnit Test Cases, etc...
? Experience working with web services including SOAP, XML, WSDL, and WSRP
? Experience with software development methodologies including RUP, Agile, Aspect, etc...
EDUCATION:
Minimum Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience in Information Technology disciplines
